Wisconsin Assembly set to take up state budget

Wisconsin’s State Assembly was debating the new state budget when the evacuation occurred. The budget passed the Senate at about midnight last night on an 18-to-15 vote. Every Democrat and one Republican voted against the measure. La Crosse Senator Jennifer Shilling was one of those Democrats voting against the budget. She says it doesn’t have the state’s best interests in mind. Rather than investing in our state and growing our economy, this budget continues to take us down a path of cuts and debt and deficits. . Other states are investing in infrastructure, they’re investing in schools, they’re investing in higher education. Wisconsin continues to go down a very different path. Changes to the state budget can still be made by Governor Scott Walker . even after it’s approved by the state Assembly. The budget is expected to be signed into law by the end of the week.
