Times Square presentation to feature children and adults with Down Syndrome from our area

OTHER THINGS. >>HAPPENING NEXT WEEKEND FAMILIES FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY WILL BE IN NEW YORK CITY FOR THE NATIONAL DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY’S ANNUAL BUDDY WALK. >>BEFORE THE WALK 500 CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DOWN SYNDROME, INCLUDING MANY FROM OUR AREA, WILL BE FEATURED ON A HUGE BILLBOARD IN TIMES SQUARE. THEY ARE ALL MAKING US PROUD, INCLUDING AN ADORABLE THREE-YEAR-OLD FROM DELAWARE. >>Reporter: THREE-YEAR-OLD MAYA GRACE IS CONSTANTLY ON THE MOVE.>>SHE JUST BRIGHTENS UP YOUR DAY. AND YOUR WORLD. >>Reporter: MAYA IS ONE OF 500 CHILDREN WHO WILL BE PART OF A TIMES SQUARE VIDEO PRESENTATION. IT WILL KICK OFF THE BUDDY WALK IN CENTRAL PARK. >>I THINK WE WERE FORTUNATE TO GET PICKED THIS YEAR.>>Reporter: MAYA’S MOM THINKS THIS PHOTO GOT THEM SELECTED. >>THE PICTURE I ACTUALLY SUBMITTED THIS YEAR, SHE HAD VICE PRESIDENT, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE JOE BIDEN I DON’T KNOW IF THAT HELPED US ANY BUT WE WERE PICKED. >>Reporter: IT WILL BE EXCITING TO SEE MAYA ON THAT BIG SCREEN BUT THE DISPLAY IS ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN JUST THAT. >>IT JUST SHOWS ABOUT INCLUSION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF PEOPLE UNDERSTANDING AND BEING AWARE OF DOWN SYNDROME. TYPICALLY IT’S MODELED IN FASHION MAGAZINES BUT I THINK IT’S GREAT THEY’RE FEATURING OUR CHILDREN. >>Reporter: SHE CREDITS THE MOVIE “THE PEANUT BUTTER FAL FALCON.” THE BIGGEST THING IS JUST PEOPLE, AND EVEN MYSELF BEFORE I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH BECAUSE I HAD A PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS AND I HAD A LOT OF MISCONCEPTIONS AND WORRY AND FEAR AND SHE’S THE MOST AMAZING THING THAT’S EVER HAPPENED TO ME. SO SOME TELL BRAT HER AND TO GIVE HER AS MUCH INDEPENDENCE AS I CAN, IT’S HARD FOR ME — SHE’S MY ONLY CHILD, TO GIVE HER AS MUCH INDEPENDENCE AS I CAN BECAUSE SHE CAN JUST DO ANYTHING. WE’RE REALLY EXCITED TO SEE HER ON THE BIG SCREEN. >>Reporter: AND WE’RE REALLY EXCITED THAT ALONG WITH MAYA, A PHOTO OF 5-YEAR-OLD HOPE OF PHILADELPHIA WILL BE FIRST IN THE PRESENTATION. PHOTOS OF A ONE-YEAR-OLD OF WILMINGTON DELAWARE, A COLLEGE STUDENT IN NORTH WALES, PENNSYLVANIA AND 34 OURS FROM OUR VIEWING AREA WILL ALSO BE FEATURED ON THAT BILLBOARD IN TIMES SQUARE. ALL OF THEM MAKING US VERY PROUD. BRIAN TAFF, CHANNEL 6 “ACTION NEWS.” >>SO WHETHER YOU ARE PHILLY, DELAWARE OR NEW JERSEY PROUD, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU AND WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD RIGHT THERE IN YOUR COMMUNITIES. GO TO OUR WEBSITE
