This is The National for Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 — School closures, Face to Face

(*)>>Adrienne: TONIGHT, THE N.D.P.’S JAGMEET SINGH FACE TO FACE WITH UNDECIDED VOTERS.>>Andrew: RIGHT HERE IN “THE NATIONAL” STUDIO.>>HOW WILL YOU FIX IT, WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM?>>Andrew: HE TAKES QUESTIONS ON HIS LEADERSHIP AND HIS CAMPAIGN AND THE COST OF HIS PROMISES. ROSEMARY WRAPS UP OUR SPECIAL SERIES.>>I AM PERSONALLY PRO-LIFE.>>Adrienne: ANDREW SCHEER OPENS UP THAT HE’S PRO-LIFE AND A DUAL CITIZEN.>>Andrew: NEW WARNINGS FOR ONTARIO PARENTS. IF SUPPORT WORKERS STRIKE, THE SCHOOLS WILL CLOSE.>>Adrienne: AND SCAMMING CANADIANS. WE’LL TAKE YOU INSIDE OF THE CALL CENTRES.>>>THIS IS “THE NATIONAL.” (*) (*)>>Andrew: CHOREOGRAPH THE CAMPAIGN, KEEP TO THE MESSAGE, CONTROL THE STORY. FOR PARTY LEADERS IN AN ELECTION THAT’S A BIG PART OF THE GAME.>>Adrienne: BUT HERE THIS WEEK ON “THE NATIONAL” THAT’S BEEN STRIPPED AWAY. EACH DAY WE’VE HAD ONE LEADER IN ONE ROOM FACE-TO-FACE WITH UNDECIDED VOTERS, HAVING REAL CONVERSATIONS THAT YOU WON’T SEE ANYWHERE ELSE. AND ON OUR FOURTH AND FINAL NIGHT A “FACE TO CASE” WITH THE N.D.P.’S JAGMEET SINGH IN THE CHAIR. YOU, ROSIE, ALSO IN THE ROOM TO FOLLOW AND TO FACT CHECK.>>Rosemary: YES, WHEN NEEDED, OF COURSE. I CAN TELL YOU THAT SINGH QUICKLY FOUND OUT THAT THIS GROUP OF VOTERS WASN’T GOING TO BE SATISFIED WITH BIG SKY ANSWERS.>>I LOST MY JOB, MY WIFE LOST HER JOB, IN-LAWS IN EDMONTON ARE ALL HURTING.>>Rosemary: SINGH FACED REAL EXPERIENCES.>>YOUR STANCE ON THE PIPELINE IS A HARD “NO.” AND A HARD “NO SHOWS THAT YOU’RE TURNING YOUR BACK ON CANADIANS, THAT’S WHAT IT FELT LIKE.>>Rosemary: AND HARD, THOUGHTFUL QUESTIONS.>>A LOT OF PEOPLE SAID THAT YOU’RE NOT ABLE TO BRING YOUR OWN PARTY TOGETHER SO HOW CAN WE HAVE FAITH IN YOU TO BRING OTHER PARTIES TOGETHER AROUND THE TABLE?>>Rosemary: ON HIS STRENGTH AS A LEADER, ON THE PRICE OF HIS PROMISES AND MORE.>>SO WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF.>>Rosemary: UNDECIDED VOTERS WEREN’T AFRAID TO PUSH HIM.>>Jagmeet Singh: CORPORATE JET IT’S –>>AND YOU HAVEN’T ANSWERED MY QUESTION — SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF AGAIN. I’LL HAVE TO CUT YOU OFF AGAIN, I’M SORRY. I’M WONDERING WHERE YOU WILL FIND THIS MONEY AND THEN WHERE YOU’LL PUT IT.>>Jagmeet Singh: I’M TELLING YOU THAT, I THINK.>>Rosemary: JUST A LITTLE BIT LATER IN THE SHOW YOU’LL HEAR HOW HE DID.>>>BUT FIRST, SOME OF THE OTHER DAY’S CAMPAIGN NEWS BECAUSE SINGH WASN’T THE ONLY PARTY LEADER TESTED. THE CONSERVATIVE LEADER WAS ATTACKED FOR WHAT HE SAID ON ABORTION AND WHAT HE LEFT UNSAID ABOUT HIS OWN CITIZENSHIP. HERE’S SALIMAH SHIVJI ON ANDREW SCHEER’S HARD DAY.>>THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE TODAY.>>Reporter: HE MAY BE MILES AWAY BUT THE SHADOW OF ANDREW SCHEER’S DEBATE PERFORMANCE IN MONTRÉAL LAST NIGHT LINGERS.>>Andrew Scheer: THEY HEARD FROM ME A VERY CONCRETE AND SPECIFIC MEASURES.>>Reporter: SCHEER’S TEAM CLAIMED VICTORY WITH A CHEEKY TWEET, CONTRADICTED BY HEADLINE AFTER HEADLINE IN QUÉBEC BECAUSE OF MOMENTS LIKE THIS.>>[Speaking French]>>[Speaking French]>>Reporter: SCHEER DODGING WHETHER HE PERSONALLY SUPPORTS ABORTION — BUT TODAY A BIG SHIFT.>>Andrew Scheer: I AM PERSONALLY PRO-LIFE BUT I’VE ALSO MADE THE COMMITMENT AS LEADER OF THIS PARTY THAT IT’S MY RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT WE DO NOT RE-OPEN THIS DEBATE.>>Reporter: HE MAY HAVE SAID THAT HE’S AGAINST ABORTION BEFORE…>>I’M AN AUTHENTIC PERSON. YOU KNOW, I AM PRO-LIFE. I HAVE ALWAYS EXPRESSED THAT.>>Reporter: BUT NOT RECENTLY, AND NEVER IN THIS CAMPAIGN.>>Andrew Scheer: WE WILL NOT SUPPORT RE-OPENING THIS DEBATE. WE WILL NOT RE-OPEN THIS DEBATE. I WILL NOT SUPPORT ANY EFFORT TO REOPEN THESE TYPES OF DEBATES.>>Reporter: THIS ALLOWED THE LIBERAL LEADER JUSTIN TRUDEAU TO KEEP PRODDING AS HE DID AGAIN TODAY.>>Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau: I’VE BEEN ABSOLUTELY UNEQUIVOCAL THAT I WILL ALWAYS DEFEND A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CANADIANS KNOW OF A LIBERAL GOVERNMENT AND OF ME AS A LEADER.>>Reporter: SCHEER TRIED TO HAMMER HOME HIS MESSAGE.>>HYPOCRISY, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.>>Reporter: ONLY TO BE KNOCKED OFF AGAIN. SCHEER HOLDS DUAL CANADIAN-U.S. CITIZENSHIP.>>Andrew Scheer: I HAVE NEVER BEEN ASKED ABOUT IT.>>Reporter: HE ONCE CRITICIZED MICHAËLLE JEAN FOR HOLDING TWO PASSPORTS.>>Andrew Scheer: TO JUST ASK SOME QUESTIONS OF MY CONSTITUENTS WHAT THEY THOUGHT OF THAT AT THE TIME.>>Reporter: SCHEER SAYS THAT HE’S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRESS — PROCESS TO RENOUNCE HIS U.S. CITIZENSHIP. AND THEY WERE GAMBLING THAT THE SHIFT ON ABORTION WOULD CARRY THEM SAFELY INTO NEXT MONDAY’S DEBATE, ONLY THIS LATEST CONTROVERSY HAS DERAILED YET ANOTHER DAY AS THE CAMPAIGN GETS SHORTER AND SHORTER. SALIMAH SHIVJI, CBC NEWS, HALIFAX.>>Rosemary: NOW, ANDREW, YOU HAVE DEVELOPMENTS IN ONTARIO THAT COULD HAVE AN IMPACT ON FAMILIES AND COULD HAVE MAJOR IMPLICATIONS FOR THE FEDERAL ELECTION TOO?>>Andrew: THAT’S RIGHT, ROSIE. EDUCATION WORKERS ARE SET TO WALK OFF THE JOB ON MONDAY. AND SCHOOL BOARDS ACROSS THE PROVINCE ARE SAYING IF THEY STRIKE THAT SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED. AND, OF COURSE, THAT COULD HAVE A DRAMATIC IMPACT ON LOTS OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING MORE THAN 600,000 STUDENTS. AS ELLEN MAURO EXPLAINS, THAT HAS PARENTS SCRAMBLING.>>Reporter: PICKING UP THE KIDS, AN EVERYDAY RITUAL, AND TODAY SHROUDED IN ANXIETY.>>IF THERE’S A STRIKE, A FULL-ON STRIKE ON MONDAY, IT WOULD BE A VERY SIGNIFICANT DISRUPTION.>>IT WILL BE A DIFFICULT SITUATION TO FIND CARE FOR HER. I’LL PROBABLY HAVE TO WORK FROM HOME.>>Reporter: TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PARENTS NOW FACE THE SAME PREDICAMENT. THIS AFTERNOON CANADA’S LARGEST PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD SAID THAT ITS SCHOOLS CAN’T STAY OPEN IF CUPE AND THE ONTARIO GOVERNMENT CAN’T REACH A DEAL.>>OUR CARETAKERS, OBVIOUSLY, KEEP OUR SCHOOLS CLEAN AND ENSURE A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT. OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANTS, THEY ARE HELPING OUR MOST VULNERABLE STUDENTS.>>Reporter: THE TORONTO DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD DECISION TO KEEP THE SCHOOLS CLOSED IF THERE’S A STRIKE CAME AFTER A WAVE OF OTHER SCHOOL BOARDS ACROSS ONTARIO ANNOUNCED THE EXACT SAME MOVE. THAT’S AMPED UP THE TENSION IN ALREADY FRAUGHT NEGOTIATIONS.>>HEY, HEY, HO, HO… FORD HAS GOTTA GO.>>Reporter: IT’S THE LATEST FIGHT BETWEEN THE DOUG FORD GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC WORKERS. ONTARIO’S EDUCATION MINISTER TRIED TO STRIKE AN OPTIMISTIC NOTE, SPEAKING TO CBC NEWS BEFORE THE POTENTIAL CLOSURES WERE ANNOUNCED.>>WE CAN GET THERE, FOLKS. I’M TELLING YOU THAT THERE’S A PATHWAY FORWARD TO RESOLVE THIS.>>Reporter: IN A STATEMENT THE CUPE LEADERSHIP SAYS THAT IT HOPES THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD’S DECISION TO CLOSE SCHOOLS PUTS PRESSURE ON THE PROVINCE TO REACH A DEAL TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ARE SUPPORTED BY HIGH-QUALITY SERVICES. THE SPECTRE OF A STRIKE IS HANGING HEAVILY ON MOTHER CHERYL DOVO.>>IT’S GOING TO BE REALLY TRICKY FOR ANY WORKING PARENT WHO HAS A 9:00 TO 5:00 JOB, IT’S GOING TO BE REALLY TRICKY. YES, I’M GOING TO GET YOU MORE CRACKERS. ONE SECOND.>>Reporter: DOVO’S SON, ISAIAH, IS AUTISTIC AND ROUTINE IS IMPORTANT.>>WITH ISAIAH WHO IS NOT TYPICALLY DEVELOPING, THERE’S NOWHERE ELSE FOR HIM TO GO IT’S SCHOOL OR HOME AND HOME IS FAR LESS FAVOURABLE.>>Reporter: SO NOW THE NERVOUS WAIT FOR WHAT COMES FIRST — RESOLUTION OR A DIFFICULT MONDAY. ELLEN MAURO, CBC NEWS, TORONTO.>>Adrienne: NOW TO A CASE OF POLITICAL DÉJÂ-VU IN WASHINGTON. DONALD TRUMP HAS CALLED ON A FOREIGN POWER TO DIG UP DIRT ON DEMOCRATIC RIVAL JOE BIDEN AGAIN. IN JULY IT WAS UKRAINE AND TODAY IT WAS CHINA. AND AS STEVEN D’SOUZA TELLS US, THIS TIME TRUMP JUST ANNOUNCED IT TO THE WORLD EVEN AS HIS IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY HEARD FROM ITS FIRST WITNESS.>>President Donald Trump: IF THEY WERE HONEST ABOUT IT, THEY’D START A MAJOR INVESTIGATION INTO THE BIDENS. IT’S A VERY SIMPLE ANSWER.>>Reporter: FACING POSSIBLE IMPEACHMENT OVER ALLEGATIONS THAT HE’S ABUSING HIS OFFICE FOR POLITICAL GAIN, DONALD TRUMP TODAY WENT RIGHT TO THE CRUX OF THE CASE.>>President Donald Trump: I WOULD SAY THAT PRESIDENT ZELENSKY, IF IT WERE ME, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THEY START AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE BIDENS.>>Reporter: TRUMP OPENLY SUGGESTED A FOREIGN POWER INVESTIGATE A POLITICAL RIVAL. THEN HE WENT A STEP FURTHER.>>President Donald Trump: LIKEWISE, CHINA SHOULD START AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE BIDENS. BECAUSE WHAT HAPPENED IN CHINA IS JUST ABOUT AS BAD AS WHAT HAPPENED WITH — WITH UKRAINE.>>JOE BIDEN…>>Reporter: TRUMP WAS REFERENCING A 2013 TRIP THAT VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN TOOK TO CHINA WITH HIS SON HUNTER. IT WAS PLAYED UP IN THIS TRUMP VIDEO. AND THERE’S BEEN ALLEGATIONS THAT HUNTER BIDEN TRADED ON HIS FATHER’S CONNECTIONS BUT NO WRONGDOING HAS BEEN PROVEN. THE COMMENTS TODAY HAD SOME RECALLING THE 2016 ELECTION CAMPAIGN.>>RUSSIA, IF YOU’RE LISTENING, I HOPE THAT YOU’RE ABLE TO FIND THE 30,000 EMAILS THAT ARE MISSING.>>Reporter: REPUBLICANS DISMISSED THOSE COMMENTS AS A JOKE AT HILLARY CLINTON’S EXPENSE. THE DEMOCRATS SAY THAT TODAY’S REMARKS WERE MUCH MORE SERIOUS.>>IT’S AN ILLUSTRATION THAT THIS PRESIDENT HAS NOT LEARNED ANYTHING FROM THE TWO YEARS OF THE MUELLER INVESTIGATION. HE FEELS THAT HE CAN DO ANYTHING WITH IMPUNITY.>>Reporter: SOME SAY THAT TRUMP’S BRAZENNESS CAN’T BE IGNORED.>>THE FACT THAT IT’S SO BLATANT DOESN’T MAKE IT ANY LESS WRONG AND PEOPLE THINK THAT IT’S GOT TO HARD TO PROVE IMPEACHMENT. AND IT ORDINARILY IS, BUT THIS IS A CASE WHERE THE PRESIDENT IS MAKING IT EASY.>>Reporter: MEANWHILE ON CAPITOL HILL, THE IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION CONTINUED. TRUMP’S FORMER SPECIAL ENVOY TO UKRAINE TESTIFIED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS TODAY. HE TOLD LAWMAKERS THAT HE HAD WARNED TRUMP’S PERSONAL LAWYER THEY WERE GETTING BAD INFORMATION ABOUT THE BIDENS FROM THE UKRAINIANS AND THAT HE WARNED THE UKRAINIANS TO STAY OUT OF U.S. POLITICS. STEVEN D’SOUZA, CBC NEWS, NEW YORK.>>Adrienne: WE’RE FOLLOWING SEVERAL OTHER STORIES TONIGHT, INCLUDING AN ATTACK IN THE HEART OF PARIS THAT LEFT FOUR PEOPLE DEAD INSIDE OF THE CITY’S POLICE HEADQUARTERS. [SIRENS] AN EMPLOYEE KILLED THREE OTHERS AND ONE ADMINISTRATIVE WORKER IN A KNIFE ATTACK. ONE OTHER PERSON WAS SERIOUSLY WOUNDED BY THE ASSAILANT WHO WAS THEN SHOT AND KILLED. THE OFFICIALS SUGGEST THAT THE ATTACKER MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A WORKPLACE DISPUTE.>>>THREE STUDENTS AT ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE SCHOOL HAVE PLEADED GUILTY IN A SEXUAL ASSAULT SCANDAL.>>THE FACT THEY HAVE STEPPED FORWARD, THEY HAVE TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY, IS GOING TO MOVE THIS CASE TOWARDS A CLOSURE.>>Adrienne: THE TEENS WERE CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO HAZING INCIDENTS AT THE PRIVATE SCHOOL LAST YEAR. COURT DOCUMENTS DETAIL THREE DIFFERENT ASSAULT WHERE IS STUDENTS WERE HELD DOWN BY A CROWD OF PLAYERS FROM THE SCHOOL’S FOOTBALL TEAM AND THEN ASSAULTED WITH A BROOM HANDLE. ONE OF THE TEENS HAS ALSO PLEADED GUILTY TO DISTRIBUTING PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL.>>>AND AN ONTARIO MAN IS CHARGED WITH MISCHIEF AFTER CALLING 911 TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AN AMBER ALERT. THAT ALERT WAS ISSUED ON TUESDAY BY NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE AFTER FIVE CHILDREN WERE REPORTED MISSING. NOW THEY WERE FOUND SAFE, BUT POLICE SAID THAT A 71-YEAR-OLD MAN CALLED 911 MINUTES AFTER THE ALERT WAS ISSUED AND SAYING THAT HE WAS ANGRY ABOUT THE NOTIFICATION AND THAT HE’D CONTINUE TO CALL WHILE IT WAS ONGOING. OFFICIALS BELIEVE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT SOMEONE IN THE PROVINCE HAS BEEN CHARGED FOR CALLING TO PROTEST AN EMERGENCY BROADCAST.>>Andrew: NOW TO ONE OF THE LARGEST SCAMS TARGETING CANADIANS. THEY HAVE STOLEN MILLIONS DOLLARS, SOMETIMES EVEN IDENTITIES, BY FALSELY CLAIMING A DEVICE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED AND THEN OFFERING TO FIX IT FOR A FEE. TONIGHT “MARKETPLACE” INVESTIGATES AND GOING WHERE EVEN RCMP OFFICERS HAVEN’T BEEN — INSIDE OF A TECH SUPPORT SCAM CENTRE. DAVID COMMON HAS THAT STORY.>>Reporter: IN THE HEART OF INDIA’S LARGEST CITY, A NEFARIOUS CALL CENTRE IS TARGETING CANADIANS. IT TOOK MONTHS, BUT WE CONVINCED A WORKER TO TAKE A HIDDEN CAMERA INSIDE. 6.>>Reporter: THESE ARE TECH SUPPORT SCAMMERS, ONE OF THE MOST WIDESPREAD SCAMS TARGETING CANADIANS. ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY AND THE NEW IMMIGRANTS. HOW MUCH MONEY WAS STOLEN FROM YOU?>>$3,000.>>Reporter: $3,000. NAHEED FILIPOS HAD A PROBLEM WITH HER SMARTPHONE. SHE WENT ONLINE TO FIND A SOLUTION. BUT THE NUMBER THAT APPEARED LED TO A SCAMMER.>>WHEN THE GUY ANSWERED HE SAID THIS IS APPLE, WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU? AND HE SAID THAT THERE ARE HACKERS FROM RUSSIA.>>Reporter: FILIPOS PAID BIG TO FIX IT, NOT REALIZING THAT IT WAS A SCAM. THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE BEEN DRAWN IN WITH ON-SCREEN POP-UP WARNINGS AND MORE. ONCE THE SCAMMERS CONNECT TO YOUR DEVICE, THEY CAN STEAL EVEN MORE.>>WE’VE HAD SITUATIONS WHERE DIFFERENT I.D.s HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT ON PEOPLE AND FAKE DRIVER’S LICENSE AND WHATNOT, GOING ALL THE WAY UP TO YOUR HOUSE BEING SOLD WITHOUT YOU KNOWING. YEAH.>>Reporter: YOUR HOUSE BEING SOLD?>>YEAH, YEAH, THEY HAVE STOLEN THEIR IDENTITY AND TAKEN A MORTGAGE OUT IN THEIR NAME.>>Reporter: WITH A THREAT THAT SERIOUS, TARGETING CANADIANS, YOU MIGHT WONDER WHY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ISN’T ABLE TO DO WHAT WE’VE DONE — GET INSIDE TO TRACK THE ILLEGAL ACTIVITY. WHAT DOES IT SAY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO GET INSIDE A CALL CENTRE LIKE THIS? TO GET RIGHT INSIDE OF IT. BUT THERE AREN’T RAIDS GOING ON AGAINST A PLACE LIKE THAT BY THE RCMP OR INDIAN POLICE?>>I APPLAUD YOUR EFFORTS FOR GETTING IN THERE, BUT POLICE ALONE CANNOT SOLVE THIS ISSUE.>>Reporter: THE RCMP SAY THAT THEY ARE WORKING TO SHUT DOWN THESE KINDS OF OPERATIONS, BUT IT’S ESPECIALLY HARD ACROSS INTERNATIONAL BORDERS. DAVID COMMON, CBC NEWS, MUMBAI.>>Susan: AND YOU CAN WATCH DAVID’S FULL INVESTIGATION ON “MARKETPLACE” FRIDAY NIGHT ON CBC TELEVISION AT 8:00 p.m., 8:30 IN NEWFOUNDLAND.>>Adrienne: FROM A PHONE SCAM TO A DISTURBING RASH OF CYBERATTACKS. IN RECENT WEEKS A MALWARE VIRUS HAS BEEN INFECTING COMPUTER SYSTEMS AT SEVERAL ONTARIO HOSPITALS. ONE IN TORONTO IS JUST THE LATEST. KAS ROUSSY EXPLAINS.>>Reporter: IT HAPPENED LAST WEEK. HACKERS INFILTRATED THIS TORONTO HOSPITAL’S COMPUTER SYSTEMS WITH AN OMINOUS WARNING — YOUR BUSINESS IS AT SERIOUS RISK. A MALICIOUS SOFTWARE CALLED “REUUK” BLOCKED ACCESS TO ALL INFORMATION INCLUDING HEALTH CARE RECORDS AND PATIENTS’ CHARTS. MICHAEL GARRON HOSPITAL WENT INTO WHAT IS CALLED A CODE GREY.>>SO WE PROACTIVELY SHUT DOWN 52 OF OUR APPROXIMATELY 150 SERVERS. PROACTIVELY WE QUICKLY STOP THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS AND WE HAVE SLOWLY BEEN RESTORING OUR SYSTEMS WHEN WE’RE SURE THAT THEY ARE SAFE.>>Reporter: THE MALWARE VIRUS COMES WITH A RANSOM DEMAND BY THE HACKERS, TO GET THE SYSTEM UNLOCKED.>>AND WE NEVER PURSUED ANY RANSOM.>>Reporter: HOSPITALS ARE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO CYBERATTACKS, BECAUSE THEY RELY ON SPECIALIZED SOFTWARE THAT RARELY GETS UPDATED.>>THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT A LOT OF THE APPLICATIONS IN THE HOSPITAL ARE OLDER APPLICATIONS THAT REQUIRE THEY STAY ON THESE OLDER VERSIONS. THAT LEAVES THEM VULNERABLE.>>Reporter: RECENTLY TWO OTHER HOSPITALS IN SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO HAVE ALSO HAD CYBERATTACKS. THE HOSPITALS SAID THEY PAID NO RANSOM AND THE SYSTEMS ARE SLOWLY RECOVERING. THE CITY OF WOODSTOCK WAS ALSO HIT WITH A VIRUS. AND IN APRIL THE CITY OF STRATFORD PAID A $75,000 RANSOM AFTER A CYBERATTACK. AT MICHAEL GARRON, SOME ELECTIVE SURGERIES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED BUT THE EMERGENCY ROOM REMAINS OPEN. WITHOUT THE COMPUTERS THE STAFF HAVE REVERTED TO WORKING ON PAPER.>>I THINK ALL OF US FELT THAT THE PROCESS WAS SLOWER THAN USUAL. I THINK THAT PLACES LIKE CLINICS IT CAN BE FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU’RE LOOKING FOR PAPERWORK AND YOU’RE NOT USED TO IT.>>Reporter: THE CODE GREY AT THE HOSPITAL IS EXPECTED TO BE LIFTED BY WEEK’S END BUT GETTING ALL COMPUTERS FULLY BACK UP AND RUNNING, THAT WILL TAKE A FEW MORE WEEKS. KAS ROUSSY, CBC NEWS, TORONTO.>>Andrew: OKAY, WE’VE GOT TO TAKE A QUICK BREAK BUT RIGHT AFTER THIS A SPECIAL TELEVISION EVENT.>>Adrienne: ROSIE IS NEXT WITH SOMETHING THAT YOU’LL ONLY SEE HERE ON “THE NATIONAL.”>>Rosemary: NEXT THE LAST IN OUR “FACE TO FACE” PANELS. JAGMEET SINGH WILL SIT DOWN IN FRONT OF UNDECIDED VOTERS AND WE BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER HERE IN THIS STUDIO SO THEY COULD PUT THEIR QUESTIONS RIGHT TO THE N.D.P. LEADER.>>SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF.>>AND YOUR STANCE ON THE PIPELINE IS A HARD NO. YOU TURNED YOUR BACK ON THOSE CANADIANS.>>I THINK THAT CANADA HAS BEEN COMPLACENT.>>WHERE I STRUGGLE WITH IS WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP CREDENTIALS.>>I’M SURE THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CAN DO SOMETHING TO INFLUENCE BILL 21.>>Rosemary: THEIR ISSUES AND HIS ANSWERS. AND LATER THOSE VOTERS WILL TELL US HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT WHAT HE SAID. ALL OF THAT WITH “FACE TO FACE WITH JAGMEET SINGH” RIGHT AFTER THE BREAK. (*) (*)>>Rosemary: HERE WE ARE AGAIN IN “THE NATIONAL” STUDIO IN TORONTO. AS YOU KNOW ALL WEEK WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS NEW DIFFERENT THING. WE PROMISED THAT THE ELECTION WOULD BE ABOUT YOU, THE VOTERS, ABOUT YOUR QUESTIONS AND YOUR CONCERNS. SO WE ARE GIVING OVER AS MUCH OF OUR INTERVIEW TIME TO THE FEDERAL LEADERS, TO YOU THE VOTERS. WELCOME TO OUR FINAL NIGHT OF “FACE TO FACE WITH THE FEDERAL LEADERS,” I’M ROSEMARY BARTON IN ONCE AGAIN. IN OUR STUDIO ARE UNDECIDED VOTERS LOOKING FOR ANSWERS AHEAD OF THE UPCOMING ELECTION. WE HAVE INVITED FIVE OF THOSE VOTERS TO SPEAK ONE ON ONE WITH THE LEADERS. AND JOINING US FOR OUR FINAL DAY HERE IS JAGMEET SINGH, THE LEADER OF THE N.D.P. GOOD TO SEE YOU.>>Jagmeet Singh: GOOD TO SEE YOU TOO.>>Rosemary: OF COURSE WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN JUSTIN TRUDEAU AND ANDREW SCHEER AND ELIZABETH MAY. AND YOU ARE OUR LAST GUEST. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE TIME, WE APPRECIATE IT. JUST SO EVERYBODY KNOWS AT HOME THAT WE GAVE YOU THE FIRST NAME OF THESE LOVELY QUESTIONERS AND THEIR HOMETOWN, GENERAL TOPICS, BUT OTHERWISE YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN. SO LET’S START THE CLOCK. HERE WE GO.>>HI, MY NAME IS LAUREN TINTONI AND I’M MARRIED TO AN ITALIAN IMMIGRANT. AND WE HAVE A 3 1/2-YEAR-OLD SON. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS CHILD CARE. THAT’S BECAUSE AS A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER I WAS NEVER GIVEN A PENNY FOR MAT LEAVE AND SINCE I COULDN’T AFFORD CHILD CARE I HAD TO BRING MY BABY TO WORK WITH ME. I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE MY SON A SIBLING BUT WE HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO BECAUSE WE CAN’T AFFORD THE HIGH COST OF CHILD CARE. I DON’T KNOW WHO I’M GOING TO VOTE FOR BECAUSE POLITICIANS MAKE SO MANY EMPTY PROMISES. I’M WONDERING WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM TO FIX THIS CHILD CARE PROBLEM? (*)>>Rosemary: ALL RIGHT, LAUREN, OVER TO YOU.>>I’M A MOM AND I’D LOVE TO HAVE A SECOND CHILD AND I CAN’T AFFORD IT. SO THIS IS A HUGE CRISIS THAT IS PLAGUING MOMS ALL OVER CANADA. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO FIX IT? WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM?>>Jagmeet Singh: FIRST OF ALL, IF SOMETHING IS A PRIORITY WE SEE THE GOVERNMENTS GET IT DONE. SO LAST YEAR –>>WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF.>>Jagmeet Singh: NOT AT ALL. SO LAST YEAR THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT CHOSE TO GIVE $14 BILLION AWAY TO THE WEALTHIEST CORPORATIONS TO BUY LIMOS AND CORPORATE JETS.>>THAT’S NOT RELEVANT TO MY QUESTION — SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF AGAIN. WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? THIS $10 BILLION, WHERE IS IT COMING FROM?>>Jagmeet Singh: MINE IS COMING FROM DIFFERENT CHOICES SO WE WOULDN’T GIVE BILLIONS TO BILLIONAIRES AND WE’D INVEST IN CHILD CARE. THE SECOND THING IS THAT WE HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES AND WE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY AND WE MAKE BETTER DECISIONS. SO, ONE, WE CHOOSE TO GIVE TO PEOPLE, NOT TO BILLIONAIRES. AND THE SECOND THING IS TO ASK FOR MORE REVENUE. SO THE REVENUE IS THE WEALTHIEST IN OUR COUNTRY DON’T PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE. SO THERE’S OFFSHORE TAX HAVENS THAT ARE $23 BILLION –>>I HATE TO CUT YOU OFF AGAIN, I’M SORRY. I’M JUST WONDERING WHERE SPECIFICALLY YOU ARE GOING TO FIND THIS MONEY? AND THEN WHERE YOU’RE GOING TO PUT IT?>>Jagmeet Singh: I’M TELLING YOU YOU THAT, I THINK. I SAY THAT THERE’S $23 BILLION OF OFFSHORE TAX HAVENS THAT WE’LL CLAMP DOWN ON AND USE THOSE INVESTMENTS IN THINGS LIKE CHILD CARE. AND ASK THE SUPER WEALTHY TO PAY A WEALTH TAX. SO THOSE WITH WEALTH OVER $20 MILLION TO PAY 1% ON THAT. AND THAT WOULD BE A $70 BILLION INVESTMENT IN NEW REVENUE. SO WE’RE GOING TO ASK THE WEALTHIEST IN CANADA TO HELP TO INVEST IN THESE PROGRAMMES.>>OKAY. SO THAT MEANS — [Applause] OKAY. SO THAT MEANS THAT THE COST OF LIVING FOR THE MIDDLE-CLASS IS NOT GOING TO INCREASE?>>Jagmeet Singh: NOT AT ALL. WE LOOK AT WHO IS NOT PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE. MIDDLE-CLASS FAMILIES AND LOWER-INCOME FAMILIES ARE CERTAINLY PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE. THEY DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO OFFSHORE TAX HAVENS AND THEY DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO C.E.O. LOOPHOLES BUT THOSE LOOPHOLES HAVE TO BE CLAMPED DOWN ONE. AND THE C.E.O. STOCK OPTION LOOPHOLE CAN RAISE AS MUCH AS A BILLION DOLLARS OF NEW REVENUE. MR. TRUDEAU PROMISED TO DO IT IN 2014 AND FOUR YEARS LATER HE’S NOT DONE IT. TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE AGAIN AND AGAIN THE GOVERNMENTS WORK FOR THE RICHEST, THEY DON’T WORK FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED HELP, FAMILIES LIKE YOU. AND I’M IN IT FOR YOU AND I WILL WANT TO FIGHT FOR YOU. [Applause]>>ANOTHER QUESTION, I’M CURIOUS ABOUT HOW — BECAUSE THE COST OF LIVING IS GOING UP AND UP AND UP. IS THERE GOING TO BE A WAY TO REDUCE IT? TO REVERSE IT? BECAUSE I WENT GROCERY SHOPPING THE OTHER DAY AND A STICK OF BUTTER WAS $7. SO HOW ARE WE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD BY REDUCING SOME OF THESE PRICES?>>Jagmeet Singh: SO I HEAR YOU ON THAT. LIKE, LIFE IS GETTING SUPER EXPENSIVE. AND I SPEAK TO PEOPLE ALL THE TIME WHO TELL ME HOW TOUGH IT IS BECAUSE THE SALARIES AREN’T GOING UP AND THE COSTS ARE GOING UP. AND IT’S REALLY FRUSTRATING. SO I LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN DO AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL. THERE’S A BUNCH OF THINGS THAT WE CAN DO. ONE IS THAT WE THAN THERE’S A COT OF HEALTH CARE THAT IS GOING UP. MEDICATIONS COST MORE AND MORE. AND WE WANT TO PUT IN PLACE A UNIVERSAL MEDICARE PROGRAMME AND A PHARMACARE PROGRAMME FOR ALL. SO THAT THE MEDICATION COSTS — AND THAT WOULD SAVE FAMILIES ABOUT $600 AT A MINIMUM PER YEAR AND FOR SOME FAMILIES THAT MEANS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF SAVINGS. WE WANT TO PUT IN PLACE A DENTAL CARE PROGRAMME TO SAVE FAMILIES ON AVERAGE, A FAMILY OF FOUR, $1,200 A YEAR, SO THAT’S A DENTAL CARE PROGRAMME THAT WE CAN PUT IN RIGHT AWAY IN ONE YEAR AND THAT WOULD SAVE FAMILIES LOTS OF MONEY. [Applause]>>Rosemary: THAT’S IT. GOOD JOB, LAUREN. THAT’S REALLY EXPENSIVE BUTTER THOUGH. I HAVE NEVER SEEN $7 BUTTER.>>YEAH, NO –>>Rosemary: AND I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS IF THAT’S OKAY. YOU CONSISTENTLY SAY AND YOU SAID IT ALREADY AGAIN TODAY THAT THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT GAVE $14 BILLION TO CORPORATIONS TO BUY LIMOUSINES AND PRIVATE JETS. THAT NOT, IN FACT, WHAT THEY GAVE THE MONEY FOR. IT WAS A RESPONSE TO A HUGE TAX REFORM THAT HAPPENED IN THE UNITED STATES. IT IS FOR CAPITAL INVESTMENT TO BUY NEW MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT FOR COMPANIES. AND THAT GENERALLY CREATES MORE JOBS AND HELPS WORKERS. SO ARE YOU SAYING TO ME THAT YOU WOULD NOT HELP COMPANIES WITH CAPITAL INVESTMENT WHEN THEY ARE HAVING TO COMPETE WITH MASSIVE TAX REFORM IN THE UNITED STATES?>>Jagmeet Singh: ROSIE, IN THAT $14 BILLION CORPORATE TAX GIVEAWAY, THEY SPECIFICALLY INCLUDED CORPORATE JETS AND LIMOUSINES AS CAPITAL INVESTMENTS.>>Rosemary: BUT IT’S DISINGENUOUS TO SAY THAT’S WHAT IT IS FOR. IT’S ALSO FOR EQUIPMENT AND LARGE MACHINERY THAT COMPANIES NEED IN ORDER TO WORK.>>Jagmeet Singh: THEY HAVE DONE WHAT MR. HARPER HAS DONE IN THE PAST — TO GIVE A BLANK CHEQUE TO CORPORATIONS AND THERE’S NO COMMITMENT TO CREATE JOBS. THERE’S NO REQUIREMENT THAT IT HAS TO INVEST IN DIRECT JOB CREATION. SO THAT’S BASICALLY A BLANK CHEQUE.>>Rosemary: SO YOU WOULD CANCEL THAT KIND OF THING?>>Jagmeet Singh: I DON’T BELIEVE IN BLANK CHEQUES, ABSOLUTELY, I WOULD CANCEL THAT.>>Rosemary: WOULD YOU GIVE $14 BILLION IF THEY MADE A COMMITMENT FOR JOB CREATION?>>Jagmeet Singh: THERE’S MEASURES TO BUY CORPORATE JETS AS ONE OF THEM AND THERE’S NO RESTRICTION, IT DOESN’T SAY THEY HAVE TO INVEST IN A FACTORY OR THEY HAVE TO INVEST IN A WORKER. THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT. TO ME THAT’S A BLANK CHEQUE AND, NO, I WOULD NEVER GIVE BLANK CHEQUES TO CORPORATIONS.>>Rosemary: BUT DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT CORPORATIONS DRIVE GROWTH AND PRODUCTIVITY IN THE COUNTRY? THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE TRYING TO SPARK BY GIVING THEM THAT OPTION.>>Jagmeet Singh: BUT DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN WE GIVE BLANK CHEQUES TO CORPORATIONS THEY CAN JUST WALK AWAY. I GREW UP IN WINDSOR AND SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO AND I HAVE SEEN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GIVE BILLION DOLLAR GIVEAWAYS TO CORPORATIONS. THEY CAN CLOSE DOWN THEIR SHOPS AND LEAVE PEOPLE STRANDED AND THEY HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE. THAT’S WRONG. [Applause]>>Rosemary: OKAY, WE’LL MOVE ON. MOVE ON TO OUR NEXT VOTER. HERE’S A LITTLE BIT ABOUT DEENA. AND I’M ORIGINALLY FROM SUDAN. I GOT MY CITIZENSHIP A FEW WEEKS AGO SO I AM A FIRST-TIME VOTER. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THE AGENDA AND FOREIGN POLICY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THEIR STRATEGY IS TO ENSURE THAT OUR PROBLEMS INTERNATIONALLY IS REGARDED TO A HIGHER STANDARD THAN IT IS TODAY.>>Rosemary: OVER TO YOU, DEENA.>>THANK YOU. SO I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS YOUR STRATEGY, WHAT IS YOUR PLAN, IF YOU WERE ELECTED INTO OFFICE TOMORROW THAT YOU’RE GOING TO EXECUTE TO BALANCE BETWEEN REPRESENTING OUR CANADIAN VALUES, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING, WITH THE ECONOMY. BECAUSE IF WE HAVE MORE TARIFFS AND WE’RE IN MORE TRADE WARS THAT WILL HIT THE ECONOMY AND EVERYTHING THAT YOU’RE TRYING TO DO ON A NATIONAL FRONT AS WELL. SO WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR PLAN?>>Jagmeet Singh: I HEAR YOU. I MEAN, IT’S TOUGH TO MAKE DECISIONS LIKE THAT. I CAN GIVE YOU THE ARMS DEAL EXAMPLE. BASICALLY I DON’T THINK THAT IT MAKES ANY SENSE THAT CANADA IS SELLING WEAPONS TO A COUNTRY LIKE SAUDI ARABIA WHEN SAUDI ARABIA HAS BEEN IMPLICATED IN THE KILLING OF A JOURNALIST. THEY’VE BEEN IMPLICATED OR THEY’RE INVOLVED IN A KILLING OF PEOPLE IN YEMEN. AND THE HUMAN RIGHTS TRACK RECORD OF THAT COUNTRY WITH RESPECT TO ITS OWN PEOPLE IS SO HORRIBLE.>>AND I AGREE, LIKE, I’M WITH YOU IN THAT SENSE. LET’S CANCEL ALL ARMS DEALS. BUT HOW WILL YOU — THAT’S A VERY POWERFUL THING ON THE STAGE, THAT’S A LEADER OF AN ISLAMIC WORLD. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO HANDLE THE RETALIATION THAT WILL COME FROM THEM OR THEIR ALLIES? AND ALSO HONOUR THE COMMITMENTS — SAYING THAT YOU WANT TO DO THIS AS A CONSENSUS BUILDER WHICH I BELIEVE IS CANADA’S ROLE SO FAR. BECAUSE YOU DO NEED THEIR SUPPORT TO BE ABLE TO GO INTO THESE COUNTRIES AND TO INCREASE WOMEN’S RIGHTS OR WOMEN’S EDUCATION. IT’S A DELICATE BALANCE. WHAT IS YOUR PLAN? IF YOU CANCEL THAT ARMS DEAL AND THEY RETALIATE, ONE, WE’RE SENDING A MESSAGE TO THE WORLD THAT OUR CURRENT LEADERS CAN CANCEL AGREEMENTS WHICH ARE PREVIOUSLY ENTERED INTO. AND IT’S ETHICALLY –>>Jagmeet Singh: LISTEN, THIS IS A CRITERIA THAT WE HAVE. A CRITERIA TO LOOK AT A HUMAN RIGHTS TRACK RECORD OF A COUNTRY, PARTICULARLY IN THE SALES OF WEAPONS. AND WE CAN EVALUATE WHETHER WEAPONS SHOULD GO THERE OR NOT.>>WHAT IF YOU ALREADY SIGNED A CONTRACT?>>Jagmeet Singh: WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO SAY THAT GIVEN ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE NOW AND GIVEN THE RECENT EVENTS, LIKE THE KILLING OF A JOURNALIST, AND THE IMPLICATION IN THAT, AND I CAN’T THINK — IF WE’VE GOT THE CRITERIA THAT EXISTS FOR US TO SAY THAT WE’RE NOT GOING TO SELL ARMS TO A COUNTRY, I CAN’T THINK OF ANY OTHER EXAMPLE — WHEN WOULD WE EVER SAY NO?>>YOU CAN CANCEL THE AGREEMENT. BUT MY QUESTION IS HOW YOU’LL DEAL WITH THE RETALIATION THAT WILL COME TO CANADA AND IMPACT OUR ECONOMY?>>Jagmeet Singh: I MEAN, I BELIEVE THAT IF YOU WANT TO BE LEADERS IN THE WORLD YOU HAVE TO TAKE A STRONG STAND.>>WHAT ARE THE STEPS THAT YOU’RE GOING TO DO TO HANDLE THAT RETALIATION? WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN HIT BY CHINA AND THAT’S — WE NEED TO — TO INCREASE OUR RELATIONSHIPS AND JUST TO BE SMART AND BRING MONEY INTO CANADA.>>Jagmeet Singh: THIS IS OUR POSITION AND I’D BE VERY CLEAR ON WHY WE’RE TAKING THE POSITION. GIVEN THESE THREE REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED, I HAVE MADE THIS DECISION. NOW COMMUNICATE THAT DECISION VERY CLEARLY AND SAY THIS IS VERY TROUBLING, THIS IS VERY WRONG, AND I COMMUNICATE THAT CLEARLY AND TAKE A FIRM STANCE.>>SO WHAT IS YOUR MITIGATION — FOR ME, IF YOU PLAN TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT YOU HAVE ANALYSED THE RISK AND YOU HAVE MITIGATION PLANS IN PLACE TO HANDLE THE RETALIATION THAT’S GOING TO COME. WE KNOW TODAY THAT THE WORLD — THE GLOBAL PLATFORM HAS CHANGED. THERE’S LACK OF CIVILITY. AND THESE COUNTRIES COME FROM VERY DIFFERENT CULTURES AND VARIED BACKGROUNDS. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT DEMOCRACY. THE LEADING REPRESENTATION OF DEMOCRACY, THE U.S. THEMSELVES ARE TAKING A DIFFERENT STANCE.>>Jagmeet Singh: I THINK WE HAVE TO STAND UP. I THINK THAT’S WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT. THEY EXPECT US TO STAND UP, AND I THINK THAT STANDING UP WILL HAVE ITS REPERCUSSIONS BUT I’M READY TO HANDLE THOSE.>>Rosemary: I’M NOT CLEAR WHERE YOU ARE ON THIS, BUT YOU JOKED THAT YOU HOPED THAT DONALD TRUMP WOULD GET IMPEACHED BEFORE YOU SPOKE TO HIM.>>Jagmeet Singh: I WASN’T JOKING. [Applause]>>Rosemary: THEN YOU SAID THAT IT WASN’T A JOKE. AND THEN THE NEXT DAY YOU SAID IT WASN’T A JOKE SO THAT’S WHERE I WAS GOING.>>Jagmeet Singh: OKAY. I STOLE THE PUNCH LINE.>>Rosemary: YEAH. DO YOU THINK THAT THAT KIND OF COMMENT IS APPROPRIATE FOR SOMEONE WHO MIGHT BE SITTING ACROSS A TABLE FROM OUR BIGGEST TRADING PARTNER? AND SOMEONE WHO YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE SOME SORT OF PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH? IS THAT AN APPROPRIATE COMMENT ON THE PRESIDENT IN THE DOMESTIC PROCESS?>>Jagmeet Singh: I GREW UP WITH THE BELIEF THAT YOU’VE GOT GOOD FRIENDS AND YOU CAN HAVE A GOOD CONVERSATION WITH THEM BUT YOU’VE GOT TO CALL THEM OUT WHEN THEY’RE WRONG. IT’S WRONG TO STRIP KIDS FROM THEIR MOM’S ARMS AND IT’S WRONG TO PUT KIDS IN CAGES. [Applause] IT’S WRONG –>>Rosemary: BUT IT’S DIFFERENT TO MAKE A COMMENT ON A POLICY DECISION AND WHERE YOU SIT ON THE ISSUE, VERSUS THE UNITED STATES. AND THEN IT’S ANOTHER THING TO SAY THAT YOU AGREE THAT THE U.S. PRESIDENT SHOULD BE IMPEACHED. YOU KNOW THAT HE REACTS ABRUPTLY TO THINGS, RIGHT? SO I JUST WONDER WHEN YOU MEET HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HE KNOWS THAT YOU’VE SAID THAT ABOUT HIM, HOW WOULD THAT CHANGE THE NATURE OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP? BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE TO.>>Jagmeet Singh: IN MY EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEONE THAT IS A BULLY AND HAS BULLYING TACTICS THEY CERTAINLY DON’T RESPECT YOU IF YOU’RE WEAK. THEY CERTAINLY DON’T RESPECT YOU IF YOU DON’T STAND UP TO THEM. MY ONLY EXPERIENCE IN LIFE IS IF YOU’VE GOT A BULLY, YOU’VE GOT TO STAND UP TO THEM AND THAT’S WHAT I WOULD DO.>>Rosemary: WHEN WE COME BACK…>>Jagmeet Singh: WE INVEST IN PEOPLE AND NOT GOING INTO DEBT TO GIVE BILLIONAIRES MORE BILLIONS.>>FAIR ENOUGH. BUT WHAT YOU SAID CONCERNS ME EVEN MORE NOW.>>Rosemary: MORE “FACE TO FACE WITH JAGMEET SING Announcer: This fall

(*)>>Rosemary: WELCOME BACK TO “FACE TO FACE WITH JAGMEET SINGH,” LET’S GET TO OUR NEXT QUESTIONER.>>HI, I AM SUNNY RAJWAN AND I’M FROM ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA. I’M MARRIED AND A FATHER TO ONE CHILD WITH ANOTHER ON THE WAY. I CURRENTLY WORK AS A FINANCIAL ANALYST IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE SECTOR. THE MAIN CONCERN FOR ME IN THIS ELECTION CYCLE IS THE INCREASING COST OF LIVING FOR AVERAGE CANADIAN FAMILIES LIKE MY OWN. AND IT’S HARDER TO BUY A HOME AND TO PAY FOR LIVING EXPENSES. THOUGH THE PARTIES ARE PROMISING TO HAVE SOCIAL SPENDING AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS TO MAKE IT MORE AFFORDABLE TO LIVE IN CANADA, MY CONCERN IS THAT NONE OF THE PARTIES ARE TALKING ABOUT HOW THEY’LL PAY FOR THIS SPENDING. WILL AFFORDABILITY AND THE FUTURE BE WORSE OFF FOR ME AND MY FELLOW CANADIANS BY HIGH TAXES? OR WILL CANADA JUST RACK UP MORE DEBT AND BURDENING MY CHILDREN’S GENERATION BY PAYING FOR THE SPENDING THAT WE’RE DOING TODAY?>>Rosemary: GO AHEAD, SUNNY.>>HI, JAGMEET, NICE TO MEET YOU. THESE PROMISES AND THE N.D.P. PLATFORM, YOU’RE KIND OF FUNDING IT ON THE BACKS OF CORPORATIONS AND THE SUPER RICH.>>Jagmeet Singh: ABSOLUTELY. SO FIRST, I’LL GIVE YOU TWO QUICK THINGS AND THEN YOU CAN AND RIGHT BACK AT ME. FIRST ARE THE CHOICES, WE MAKE DIFFERENT CHOICES AND, YES, IN ADDITION TO THAT WE WOULD INCREASE REVENUE ON THE SUPER RICH AS WELL AS THE WEALTHIEST.>>SO THAT MEANS THAT YOU WON’T RAISE MY TAXES?>>Jagmeet Singh: NOT AT ALL.>>NOT 1%?>>Jagmeet Singh: NOT 1%.>>AND WON’T RACK UP MORE DEBT?>>Jagmeet Singh: NO. OUR PLAN IS THIS — OUR PLAN IS THIS — WE’RE NOT AFRAID TO MAKE INVESTMENTS IN PEOPLE TO ENSURE TO DELIVER PROGRAMMES. BUT WE’RE CONFIDENT THAT THE DECISION THAT WE’RE MAKING ARE GOING TO INCREASE THE REVENUE, AND TO MAKE BETTER CHOICES WITH THE REVENUE THAT WE HAVE SO THAT WE INVEST IN PEOPLE, AND NOT IN GOING TO DEBT TO GIVE BILLIONAIRES MORE BILLIONS.>>FAIR ENOUGH. BUT WHAT YOU JUST SAID CONCERNS ME EVEN MORE NOW, RIGHT? BECAUSE THE LAST TIME I CHECKED WE WORK IN A CAPITALISTIC ECONOMY AND THE RICH WANT TO GET RICHER EVERY DAY, AND THE CORPORATIONS ARE IN IT FOR THE BOTTOM LINE. CORPORATIONS EMPLOY THE MIDDLE CLASS LIKE MYSELF. IF YOU JACK UP THE TAXES EVEN MORE ON THEM, SURE, THEY’LL PAY IT BUT DOWN THE ROAD THEY’LL SAY, HEY, WE’RE LEAVING GOING TO, SAY, THE U.S. AND WE’LL CUT JOBS AND WE’RE OUT THE DOOR, RIGHT? THEN I’M SCARED THAT MR. JAGMEET SINGH AND THE N.D.P. WILL SHOW UP AT MY DOOR AND SAY REMEMBER ALL OF THOSE PROMISES THAT YOU GAVE US, PAY UP FOR IT NOW.>>Jagmeet Singh: THAT WON’T HAPPEN AND I’LL TELL YOU WHY –>>BUT THE THING IS THAT IT’S PLAYING ROBIN HOOD, RIGHT. TAKING AWAY FROM THE RICH AND GIVING IT TO THE POOR. AND THE CORPORATIONS AREN’T IN IT TO PLAY A CHARITY GAME.>>Jagmeet Singh: EVERYBODY SHOULD PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE.>>THEY SHOULD BE BUT THAT’S NOT HOW ECONOMICS WORK, RIGHT?>>Jagmeet Singh: SO FOR 1% ON THE WEALTHIEST, SO THOSE WHO HAVE WEALTH OVER $20 MILLION WE PUT A 1% TAX IN PLACE. SOME PEOPLE ASKED WHY 1% AND WHY NOT 5% OR 10%? THE 1% IS BECAUSE WE FOUND THAT THE P.B.O. COSTED THIS OUT AND THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD COST MORE FOR PEOPLE TO MOVE THEIR MONEY THAN TO KEEP IT IN THEIR JURISDICTION. SO THAT’S WHY WE KEPT IT AT 1%. ON TOP OF THAT WE DON’T WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO MOVE IT AROUND.>>OKAY, CLIMATE CHANGE. [Applause]>>Jagmeet Singh: YEAH.>>HOLD THE CLAPS. [laughter] I’M A BIG BELIEVER IN THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE CLIMATE. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE CLIMATE RIGHT NOW.>>Jagmeet Singh: YEAH, YEAH.>>WE’RE GOING TO REACH LEVELS OF CARBON EMISSIONS WHERE IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO REVERSE. OUR CHILDREN WILL SUFFER AND I DON’T WANT THEM FIGHTING FOR RESOURCES LIKE WATER AND ENERGY. WE NEED TO SAVE THE PLANET. I KNOW THAT IS A TERM, BUT WE REALLY NEED TO DO SOMETHING NOW.>>Jagmeet Singh: I AGREE.>>ON THE FLIPSIDE OF THAT –>>Rosemary: JUST GO AHEAD AND ASK YOUR QUESTION.>>OKAY. I WAS IN CALGARY DURING THE OIL DOWNTURN AND I WAS AFFECTED DEEPLY. WE JUST HAD A BABY AND BOUGHT A HOUSE — I WORKED MY BUTT OFF TO BUY THAT HOUSE. I LOST MY JOB, MY WIFE LOST HER JOB AND THE IN-LAWS IN IDAHO ARE ALL HURTING. FRIENDS IN CALGARY HAVE LOST JOBS. THEY’RE HAVING TROUBLE PUTTING A HOUSE OVER THEIR HEADS AND FOOD ON THE TABLE.>>Jagmeet Singh: YEP.>>YOUR STANCE ON THE PIPELINE IS A HARD “NO,” A HARD “NO” SHOWS ME THAT YOU’RE TURNING YOUR BACK ON CANADIANS. THAT’S WHAT IT FEELS LIKE. WHY DOESN’T THE N.D.P. JUST PHASE OFF THE PIPELINE VERSUS, NO, TOO BAD, SO SAD, WE’RE GOING TO GO GREEN. ARE YOU GOING THERE BECAUSE WHERE THE VOTES ARE AND THAT’S A HOT TOPIC RIGHT NOW? OR WHY NOT PHASE OUT AND HELP THE CANADIANS THAT ARE SUFFERING BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT THE N.D.P. IS ABOUT.>>Rosemary: LAST ONE FOR REAL.>>Jagmeet Singh: I DON’T KNOW IF THE VOTES ARE THERE, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU BECAUSE PEOPLE SAY THAT POLLING GOING THIS WAY OR THAT WAY AND IT’S NOT CLEAR. I KNOW THAT A VALUE IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE TO PUT THE WHOLE COASTLINE AT RISK AND THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE THEIR RIGHTS INFRINGED ON AND IT’S DILUTED BITUMEN AND WE DON’T KNOW HOW TO CLEAN IT UP IF THERE’S AN OIL SPILL. SO FOR VARIOUS REASONS I SAID NO TO THAT PROJECT. BUT I SAY YES TO WORKS BECAUSE I — WORKERS BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH AND I HAVE HEARD THE SAME STORIES FROM SO MANY PEOPLE. I KNOW THAT THIS HASN’T JUST HAPPENED NOW. IN EDMONTON I HAVE A FRIEND THAT I WAS FRIENDS WITH 20 YEARS AGO AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED BACK THEN. THE BUSTS AND BOOMS HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN. AND NO MATTER HOW HARD THEY WORK THEY GO THROUGH PERIODS AND THEY LOSE EVERYTHING AND GAIN EVERYTHING.>>BUT THIS TIME EVERYONE IS SAYING FORGET THE PIPELINE, FORGET IT, TOO BAD, RIGHT?>>Jagmeet Singh: OUR PLAN TO FIGHT THE CLIMATE CRISIS IS A JOBS PLAN AS WELL BECAUSE WE CANNOT FORGET WORKERS. SO WE’RE COMMITTED TO DOING IS THIS — WORKERS SHOULD NOT HAVE AN ECONOMY THAT IS SO VOLATILE AND SO UNPREDICTABLE. I WANT TO GIVE MORE STABILITY AND PREDICTABILITY?>>HOW WILL DO YOU THAT?>>Jagmeet Singh: SO THERE’S A WHOLE HOST OF MEASURES TO MAKE INVESTMENTS IN. WE WANT TO MAKE INVESTMENTS IN CLEAN ENERGY AND IN RETROFITS AND WE’LL PUT ALL OF THE SKILLS AND TALENTS THAT WE HAVE INTO AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE LONG-TERM JOBS.>>Rosemary: SUNNY WANTS FIVE MORE QUESTIONS BUT HE’S NOT GETTING THEM THOUGH.>>SORRY, MAN, SORRY.>>MY NAME IS DAVID ASPINALL AND I AM MARRIED WITH TWO DAUGHTERS AT UNIVERSITY. I LIVE IN MONTRÉAL. TOGETHER WITH MY WIFE, WE OWN AND WE OPERATE AN INTERNET BUSINESS. AND WE CONTRIBUTE A LOT TO THE LOCAL FABRIC IN TERMS OF JOBS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD. I AM AN UNDECIDED VOTER BECAUSE I HAVEN’T YET HEARD FROM THE LEADERS AND THE PARTIES A CLEAR VISION ABOUT HOW THEY’LL DEAL WITH THE CHALLENGES RELATED TO NEW TECHNOLOGIES.>>Rosemary: ALL RIGHT, DAVID.>>HI.>>Jagmeet Singh: HI.>>AS A LEADER OF THE PARTY AND AS A LEADER OF THE GOVERNMENT, WOULD YOU, IN FACT, CONSIDER HAVING SOME FORM OF COUNCIL OR COMMITTEE THAT WOULD CONSIDER THE IMPACTS ON CANADIAN BUSINESSES? AND HOW WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO ALSO DEVELOP MORE BUSINESSES AND MORE, YOU KNOW, CAPITAL HERE IN CANADA?>>Jagmeet Singh: WHAT I THINK IS THAT SO THE TAXATION QUESTION ISN’T JUST A MATTER OF REVENUE, IT’S ALSO A MATTER OF COMPETITION. SO CANADA HAS LOST OUT BECAUSE WEB GIANTS EFFECTIVELY OPERATE WITHOUT ANY TAXATION, WITHOUT ANY RESTRICTIONS, AND IT’S REALLY BEEN AN INCENTIVE. IT’S BEEN A SUBSIDY OF FACEBOOK, GOOGLE AND NETFLIX, EFFECTIVELY CANADA HAS SUBSIDIZED THESE COMPANIES BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE THE SAME TAXATION LAWS THAT APPLY TO THEM. SO BY BEING SUBSIDIZED THEY HAVE GOTTEN AHEAD OF TRADITIONAL MEDIA. SO WE HAVE LOST OUT IN CULTURE AND WE HAVE LOST OUT IN INVESTMENTS IN OUR LOCAL MEDIA. BECAUSE CANADA, MR. TRUDEAU AND MR. HARPER BEFORE HIM, HAVE BEEN GIVING AWAY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO THESE OTHER COMPANIES THAT HAVE BEEN TAKING THAT AS AN ADVANTAGE AND RUN WITH IT. SO I THINK IT’S CREATED MORE WEALTH CONCENTRATED INTO FEWER HANDS AND HURT LOCAL BUSINESSES AND LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES LIKE YOURS TO CONTINUE AND GROW. SO I THINK THAT IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM.>>I THINK THAT IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. AND, YOU KNOW, WE CANNOT WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO GIVE YOU US A MODEL OR A STRATEGY. WHAT I HAVEN’T HEARD WOULD YOU COMMIT, FOR EXAMPLE, TO HAVE SOME FORT OF COMMISSION TO LOOK AT THIS TO STIMULATE THE JOB GROWTH AND DEVELOP RESOURCES LOCALLY?>>Jagmeet Singh: ABSOLUTELY. WHAT WE WOULD DO, I THINK WITH THE NEW ADVENT OF TECHNOLOGY AND e-COMMERCE AND THE CONSOLIDATION OF POWER BASICALLY INTO A COUPLE HANDFUL OF WEB GIANTS, IT’S HURT ALL OF THE FORMS OF COMPETITION. SO I WOULD LIKE AT WHAT THE IMPACT HAS BEEN ON GIVING THEM THAT MASSIVE SUBSIDY AND HOW THAT’S HURT BUSINESSES AND HOW WE CAN SUPPORT THE LOCAL BUSINESSES GROWING.>>Rosemary: IT’S TIME FOR A QUICK BREAK. UP NEXT…>>WHEN IT COMES TO ACTION, LIKE, FOR EXAMPLE, BILL 21, I FELT THAT YOU DIDN’T HAVE THE COURAGE TO TAKE ACTION.>>Rosemary: “FACE TO FACE WITH JAGMEET SINGH” CONTINUES RIGHT AFTER THIS.>>I’M JAYME POISSON AND TOMORROW ON CBC’S DAILY NEWS PODCAST “FRONTBURNER,” MORE WITH “THE NATIONAL” CO-HOST ROSEMARY BARTON ON WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT UNDECIDED VOTERS IN THIS WEEK’S “FACE TO FACE WITH FEDERAL PARTY LEADERS.” SUBSCRIBE WHEREVER YOU GET YOUR PODCASTS. (*)>>Rosemary: WELCOME BACK. N.D.P. LEADER JAGMEET SINGH IS HERE TAKING QUESTIONS FROM UNDECIDED VOTERS. WATCH THIS…>>MY NAME IS FARLEEN AND I WORK IN DUN TOWN TORONTO. I WORK IN THE FINANCIAL SERVICES INDUSTRY. AND I AM PAKISTANI-CANADIAN. I HAVE BEEN IN CANADA FOR 12 YEARS. IN MY SPARE TIME I VOLUNTEER WITH VARIOUS ORGINISATIONS. I’M PASSIONATE ABOUT EMPOWERING WOMEN AS WELL AS WORKING WITH MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES. HISTORICALLY I HAVE VOTED LIBERAL. HOWEVER, FOR THE PAST COUPLE YEARS I HAVE VOTED N.D.P. THIS YEAR I’M UNDECIDED. AND I’M NOT SURE WHO I’M GOING TO VOTE FOR. ALL RIGHT, SO I HEAR A LOT ABOUT DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION WITHIN YOUR PARTY, WHICH MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT YOU SAID THE RIGHT THINGS, ESPECIALLY AROUND THE BLACKFACE SCANDAL AND I FELT THAT YOUR MESSAGE REALLY RESONATED WITH ME AND A LOT OF OTHER CANADIANS. SO I THINK THAT YOU SHOWED REALLY GREAT LEADERSHIP. HOWEVER, WHEN IT COMES TO ACTION, FOR EXAMPLE, BILL 21, I FELT THAT YOU DIDN’T HAVE THE COURAGE TO TAKE ACTION. THAT YOU REALLY SHIED AWAY FROM ACTUALLY STANDING UP. SO, AGAIN, THAT RAISES QUESTIONS TO ME ABOUT YOUR LEADERSHIP.>>Jagmeet Singh: I DON’T KNOW IF YOU SAW THE VIDEO YESTERDAY BUT MY WHOLE LIFE — MY WHOLE LIFE WAS AN ACT OF DEFIANCE OF AN IDEA OF DISCRIMINATING AGAINST PEOPLE. I GO TO MONTRÉAL, I GO TO QUÉBEC. NO OTHER LEADER COULD GO THERE AND FACE HAVING PEOPLE CALL THEM OUT FOR THE WAY THAT THEY LOOK. I’M NOT AFRAID OF THAT. I KNOW THAT MANY CANADIANS FACE THAT EVERY DAY. AND PEOPLE ARE TOLD THEY DON’T BELONG BECAUSE OF THEIR GENDER OR THE COLOUR OF THEIR SKIN OR WHO THEY ARE, THEIR SEXUALITY. AND I GO INTO PLACES AND I SAY, HEY, I’M NOT JUST TRYING TO BECOME — I’M TRYING TO BECOME THE PRIME MINISTER OF THIS COUNTRY AND, LOOK, I HAVE A BEARD AND A TURBAN AND I WANT TO FIGHT CLIMATE CRISIS AND BUILD A BETTER COUNTRY. MY PRESENCE ON THE POLITICAL PLATFORM IS AN ACT OF SAYING, HEY, WE DON’T HAVE TO DIVIDE PEOPLE BASED ON THE WAY THEY LOOK.>>AND I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT. I AGREE WITH YOU. [Applause] BUT IF I COULD JUST GET IN ON THE ACTION PIECE. BY TAKING ACTION ON BILL 21, I’M NOT A LAWYER BUT I WANT TO KNOW — I’M SURE THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CAN DO SOMETHING, YOU KNOW, AGAINST BILL 21?>>Jagmeet Singh: RIGHT NOW THERE’S A COURT CHALLENGE GOING ON. AND THAT COURT CHALLENGE IS VERY IMPORTANT. I SUPPORT THE RIGHT TO CHALLENGE IT IN COURT. THAT DECISION WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT. I DON’T WANT TO INTERFERE WITH THAT DECISION. BUT WHAT I WANT TO DO IS TO WIN OVER THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PEOPLE. I’M GOING TO QUÉBEC REGULARLY AND I’M GOING ON TV REGULARLY. EVERY QUESTION I GET WHEN I GO TO A SCRUM OR I’M INTERVIEWED IN QUÉBEC IS ABOUT BILL 21. SO I HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY SAY, LISTEN, I’M CLEARLY AGAINST THE BILL. [laughter] [Applause] I DON’T BELIEVE — I DON’T BELIEVE IN POLITICS THAT DIVIDE US. I DON’T BELIEVE IN POLITICS THAT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST PEOPLE BASED ON THE WAY THEY LOOK. AND I WANT TO WIN OVER THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PEOPLE IN QUÉBEC, ONE INTERVIEW AT A TIME. AND I WANT TO SHOW PEOPLE THAT WE CAN BUILD A SOCIETY WHEN WE WORK TOGETHER.>>BUT WILL YOU TAKE ACTION ON THAT BILL?>>Jagmeet Singh: YES, I TAKE ACTION EVERY SINGLE DAY AND I WILL CONTINUE TO DO AS PRIME MINISTER AS WELL.>>Rosemary: OKAY, GOOD JOB. YOU HEARD THEIR QUESTIONS AND HIS ANSWERS. NOW IT’S TIME TO HEAR WHAT THE UNDECIDED VOTERS REALLY THOUGHT. THEIR IMPRESSIONS ARE RIGHT AFTER THE BREAK. (*) Chang: This federal

LEADER JAGMEET SINGH. HERE ARE THEIR REACTIONS TO HIS ANSWERS.>>IT DEFINITELY FELT INTENSE. I COULD FEEL A LOT OF CHARISMATIC ENERGY.>>I WAS MORE NERVOUS BEFOREHAND.>>JAGMEET IS A GOOD GUY, A PERSONABLE GUY.>>I REALLY FEEL THAT THE LEADER WAS GENUINE.>>I’M VERY DISHEARTENED. A LITTLE PREACHY.>>ANYTIME THAT A PERSON ASKED A QUESTION IT FELT THAT HE WAS SMOKESCREENING AND MULTIPLE TIMES MYSELF AND OTHERS ASKED HIM POINT BLANK, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO, HOW WILL YOU DO IT? NEVER GOT A CLEAR ANSWER.>>VERY EASY TO TALK ABOUT SKIMMING MONEY FROM THE RICH BUT I WANTED TO KNOW WHERE THAT MONEY WAS GOING TO BE PUT SPECIFICALLY AND HOW IT WOULD BE DIVIDED.>>I THINK THAT HIS ANSWERS WERE POLITICIAN ANSWERS, LIKE WHAT THEY’RE SCRIPTED TO SAY.>>HE CAME VERY WELL PREPARED AND I WAS IMPRESSED.>>THERE WERE SOME GREAT QUESTIONS. IT REALLY BROUGHT TO LIGHT ALL OF THE ISSUES THAT CANADIANS CARE ABOUT. AND WHAT IS INTERESTING IS THAT ALL OF OUR ISSUES WERE CONNECTED. BUT I’M STILL LEFT A LITTLE CONCERNED.>>AND KEPT ALLUDING TO MR. TRUDEAU AND WHAT HE’S DONE AND HOW HE’LL DO IT BETTER.>>AND I DIDN’T FEEL THAT WHAT TRUDEAU HAD DONE IS ANY BEARING ON WHAT I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT.>>EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE HEARD IS ONE SIDE OF A COIN OF LEADERSHIP. BASED ON WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO DO NATIONALLY. AND NOT MUCH OF WHAT I’VE HEARD IS WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO DO INTERNATIONALLY.>>I FEEL THAT THERE’S STILL A LOT LEFT IN THE CAMPAIGN, BUT I DEFINITELY FELT THOUGH THAT HE WAS ON MY SIDE.>>THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY AND I HOPE THAT I GOT SOME OF YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED.>>Rosemary: AND THANK YOU FOR JOINING US FOR THESE SPECIAL EDITIONS OF “THE NATIONAL.” IF YOU MISSED ANY OF OUR “FACE TO FACE” SPECIALS THERE’S STILL TIME TO GET CAUGHT UP BEFORE ELECTION DAY.>>YOU AND I AREN’T GOING TO LIVE TO SEE THE END OF THE WORLD BUT OUR GRANDCHILDREN COULD VERY WELL BURN.>>Rosemary: FROM THE IMPENDING EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE TO THE COST OF LIVING.>>PURSUIT OF HOMEOWNERSHIP KEEPS GOING AWAY AND AWAY FROM US.>>Rosemary: UNDECIDED VOTERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY TOLD THE LEADERS WHAT WAS IMPORTANT TO THEM.>>WHEN PICTURES COME OUT WITH BROWNFACE AND STUFF LIKE THAT, IS THAT MY PRIME MINISTER THAT IS REPRESENTING CANADA OUT THERE?>>Rosemary: AND HOW THE LEADERS’ FEET WERE HELD TO THE FIRE.>>SHOULD WE BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER? HOW WILL YOU WORK WITH TRUDEAU OR SCHEER SHOULD THEY BECOME PRIME MINISTER?>>Rosemary: 20 UNDECIDED CANADIANS, FOUR PARTY LEADERS, FOUR SPECIAL NIGHTS. WATCH THEM ALL ON CBC GEM OR ON THE CBC NEWS APP. BIG THANKS TO ALL OF THE UNDECIDED VOTERS WHO JOINED US FROM ACROSS CANADA AND TO YOU FOR WATCHING. 1. I can’t wait until the Conservatives win and then CBC will no longer be given millions and millions of dollars taxpayer dollars. This will force CBC to produce content that is equally valid for all Canadians not just for those whose politics lean left.

  2. The NDP is going down and may be finished . The days of Layton and his hard work are up in smoke .Hopefully Trudeau will follow . Canada has had no common sense for 15 years ! The conservatives are no hell either . Best that some provinces separate . Most elections are decided in Ontario and Quebec anyways . Best of luck Canada !

  3. It was Bill Clinton who separated adults from the children when he was president . (Called the Flores Agreement ) . There was lots of abuse happening in the illegal immigration camps . People were kidnapping children and selling them !! Also Obama also separated children for safety reasons . There was many cases of child abuse and sexual assault .

  4. The 2nd girl asking Jagmeet is simply wasting time in focusing on unimportant issues to the average voter. Then she expects him to stop any retaliation from a dissatisfied foreign government on Canada's foreign policy and wants to know the detailed bureaucratic procedure on that !

  5. I heard so many people say the samething we not going to give money to billionaires we will take it from then no they won't the billionaires will just move out of Canada

  6. More biased government controlled media. Media should be independent. This is NDP/Liberal paid for. CBC got another 600 million from Trudeau. Do you see anything on People's Party of Canada. Of course not, they want to defund the CBC. And it should. Thank god the Internet is here.

  7. Why is it that the comments section for the Face to Face interviews for Trudeau, Sheer and May had the comments disabled but they are enabled for Singh. Is it because they were that unfavourable for the first three? What does it say that you allow comments for Singh and not the others. I think it speaks volumes.

  8. That's the problem with the "sorry to cut you off" lady — she's willfully buying 7-dollar sticks of butter. 😂

  9. Ms. CBC Barton had something dripping off her lip when she interviewed Trudeau but when she interviewed everyone else she had a knife, The national is done. Sheer 2019!

  10. Ms. CBC Barton had something dripping off her lip when she interviewed Trudeau but when she interviewed everyone else she had a knife, The national is done. Sheer 2019!

  11. Jugmeet Singh. The only no nonsense leader. I'd vote for him… Only if he could beat the Conservatives, which he can't. So…

Also, CBC is biased. The host tried to give Jugmeet a hard time with expounding on the corporate giveaway when it was clearly explained that giving a blank cheque is a bad idea, and giving him the 2nd lady who asked jugmeet a none issue question that the vast majority of canadians don't care about and can't relate to.

  12. I am sorry to cut you off, why should Child care be taken up by government and tax payers? She is doing the right thing now, you cant afford to have a baby? Then DON'T have a baby. Simple, having a baby is not a need it is a WANT.

  13. Some of the voters interviewing the leaders cut them off even when they were being given fairly good answers. I think the format needs to be revisited, because the voters clearly felt rushed. Maybe have 4 instead of 5 voters, or limit each to 1 question and one follow up. Interesting idea nonetheless.

  14. What are Canadian tanks doing in Yemen?

    https://www.rcinet.ca/en/2019/10/03/footage-canadian-lav-yemen-saudi-arabia-arms/

  15. NDP are terrified in the Aboriginals decision in pipeline construction in B.C. Asked them the question , anyhow? Then U can tax money off more multinational resource CEO ole-guard especially the Asian influencials, and cartels in Canada The Aboriginals financial crises across Canada is terminated , that means more RCMP officers & train them to be better bell hops to patrol U.S./Canadian irregular's on borders , and Quebec can make a fortune on hydro , furnishing Green Parties reusable efficient clean energy to the West !!!!

  16. "
Tonight face to face with undecided voters?!? Nawh I'm pretty sure CBC's majority of viewers are hard liberals brainwashed by this propaganda funded by the corrupt Liberals. Why aren't we hearing more from Max from the PPC?? in democracy don't we all get to be heard? Vote CPP! Or at least hear Max out and let him debate! Don't get fooled by the blackfaces!

  17. Canadians if you do not elect someone who is pro life and anti immigration, somone who will advocate atleast as hard for native Canadians as non native Canadians I fear you will end up like the UK, DOOMED!!
