Nothing gets in but sap. I just love it up here

father with me. We like making syrup.
I guess that’s the thing. Most people have regarded
maple syrup production as a nice hobby, nostalgic
and all that but rarely as a viable business. Well that may not be
the case much longer because true maple syrup may be on the verge
of making a comeback. There’s something in pure maple syrup that
you just can’t duplicate any other way. I know our sales are up. Every year they’re going up and if you’ve got
a good quality product and market it in a proper way, you’ll have no problem. Reporter: This is one of the
largest maple syrup warehouses in the world. Last fall, 27 million pounds
were stored here. The huge surplus
forced down prices. The market took off,
and the syrup went with it. A lot of it is bound
for the United States where the appetite
for syrup is growing. Reporter: During a routine
inventory check, someone noticed a lot
of syrup had disappeared. We were shocked,
we didn’t know what — what happened. The warehouse that was robbed
holds enough maple syrup to fill nearly two
Olympic sized pools. A lot of that was stolen, perhaps millions
of dollars worth. The syrup was insured so producers won’t
be out any money, but there could be a sticky
problem for buyers and processors. They may have to compete
with a black market of liquid gold. Reporter: There is a human and
poetic quality in maples, which is easily felt. Many farmers would no more
part with their maple bush or orchard than
with any precious heirloom. ♪ ♪ ♪ [news sting]>>Wendy: BRITISH POLICE SAID THEY BROKE UP A TERROR PLOT AFTER RAIDS IN SOUTHERN ENGLAND.
