Shelter dogs quarantined

MEAT FARM. 24 DOGS AT WAUKESHA’S HUMANE
ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY ARE KEPT
AWAY FROM THE OTHER DOGS BECAUSE
OF POSSIBLE CONTACT WITH AN
INFECTIOUS DISEASE CAUSED
THROUGH BREEDING.>>WE HAD A TRANSPORT IN
MID-FEBRUARY AND ON THAT
TRANSPORT THERE WERE TWO DOGS
THAT WERE FOUND LATER ON TO HAVE
CONTRACTED CANINE BRUCELLOSIS.>>12-NEWS FIRST SHOWED YOU SOME
OF THESE DOGS IN FEBRUARY. THEY’D JUST BEEN RESCUED FROM A
SOUTH KOREAN MEAT FARM. SEVERAL SHELTERS, INCLUDING THE
WASHINGTON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY
AND THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF
SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, TOOK THEM IN. AFTER TESTS REVEALED THE
SICKNESS, VETS HAD TO PUT ONE OF
THE DOGS DOWN.>>THE SAD THING ABOUT THIS IS
THAT BECAUSE BRUCELLOSIS DOES
NOT HAVE YOU KNOW A CURE PER SE.>>WISCONSIN LAW ALLOWS JUST TWO
OPTIONS FOR DOGS WITH THE
DISEASE, BE PUT DOWN, OR
LIFETIME QUARANTINE. SMIEJA SAYS WHILE THE DISEASE IS
SERIOUS, IT DOES NOT TRANSMIT
EASILY. BUT SHELTERS ARE STILL TAKING
PRECAUTIONS AND WILL TEST THE
REMAINING DOGS TWO MORE TIMES
BEFORE PUTTING THEM UP FOR
ADOPTION.>>THEY WILL PROBABLY BE HERE IN
SEPARATION UNTIL THE END OF MAY
, SO WE ARE TALKING TWO FAIRLY
LONG MONTHS WHERE

  1. I'm going to wait three more days before I come forward with my signed ticket. I'm working on my security detail at the moment…
