THE ANIMALS COMING TO MICHIGAN LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME. 28 DOGS FROM A SHELTER IN FLORIDA HAVE ARRIVED SAFELY IN MICHIGAN TO BE MADE READY FOR ADOPTION. THE IDEA TO MAKE ROOM AT THE FLORIDA FACILITY TO REUNITE THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS SEPARATED IN THE STORMS OF HARVEY AND IRMA. THE MICHIGAN HUMANE SOCIETY HEADED SOUTH LABOR DAY. THE FIRST WAVE JUST RETURNED THIS AFTERNOON VOLUNTEER LARRY WILL HELM DOESN’T NO IF HE NEEDS A SHOWER OR A BEER.>>I CAN HELP A LITTLE BIT. HUNDREDS WOULD COME IN ON A DAILY SHELTER AND IN NEED OF MAJOR MEDICAL CARE, SURGERY, WOUND CLEANING, DIAGNOSTICS AND SO FORTH.>>Paula: THE MICHIGAN HUMANE SOCIETY TEAM IS AT THE READY AND LEARNED A LOT FROM HURRICANE KATRINA IN TERMS O SAVING ANIMALS, SERVING ANIMALS, REUNITING ANIMALS AND HANDLING TRAUMATIZED ANIMALS.>>IN MANY CASES, THEY WERE ALLOWED TO EVACUATE WITH OWNERS. BEFORE KATRINA, THAT WASN’T ALLOWED. PEOPLE LEFT MANY MORE ANIMALS IN HOME.>>EAC TIME EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS IMPROVES, AND MANY WERE DISPLACED A HOMELESS IN THIS EVENT AS WELL.>>Paula: ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STANDS OUT FROM EVERYONE INSIDE IS THEY ALL WONDER WHAT IT’S GOING TO BE LIKE THE FIRST TIME THESE ANIMALS EXPERIENCE SNOW. THEY KNOW THAT MICHIGANDERS WILL OPEN UP THEIR HEARTS AND REALLY TAKE THESE ANIMALS IN AND HELP HEAL THEM WITH OUR OWN MICHIGAN BRAND OF LOVE.
