Orange County pushes for bill that would upgrade charge for mishandling human remains

JUST A MISDEMEANOR. HOW THE SHARP SHOP IS LOOKING TO
CHANGE THAT.>>WHO BURIES A BODY IN HIS
BACKYARD? RICK PALERMO DID. IT MADE STATEMENTS.>>I WENT FOR PUT BY FOUR FOOT
AND THEN FEET DOWN.>>IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, HE
SAID HE HAD HIS REASONS THAT HIS
FRIEND DIED OF A DRUG OVERDOSE
IN HIS HOUSE AND HE HAS A
CRIMINAL HISTORY. HE WAS SCARED HE MIGHT GET
ARRESTED.>>WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS,
BEARING THE BODY IN YOUR
BACKYARD, WHAT WERE YOU
THINKING?>>I WAS CRYING.>>DID YOU THINK YOU MIGHT GET
IN TROUBLE?>>NO.>>THE COMMUNITY WAS SHOCKED
THAT WHAT HE DID IS CONSIDERED A
MISDEMEANOR. MISHANDLING DEAD HUMAN REMAINS. BUT THE SHARE HOPES TO CHANGE
THAT. HE IS WORKING TO GET A BILL THAT
WOULD UPP THAT CHARGE TO A
FELONY. THAT COULD BRING ACTUAL JAIL
TIME AND MY PEOPLE — MIGHT MAKE
PEOPLE THINK TWICE ABOUT DOING
THIS.>>IT IS ILLOGICAL AND
METICULOUS AND I BET THE AVERAGE
PERSON DOES NOT REALIZE THAT IT
IS A MISDEMEANOR CRIME.>>THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED THE
GOOD SAMARITAN ACT WHERE IF YOU
CALL FOR MEDICAL HELP, YOU WILL
NOT BE ARRESTED FOR SIMPLE
POSSESSION. THIS IS ALL IN THE BEGINNING
STAGES. NO HAS BEEN DRAFTED. THEY’RE LOOKING FOR A LAWMAKER
THAT WILL SPONSOR IT. OTHER STATES HAVE A SIMILAR LAW
AND HE THINKS IT IS TIME THAT
FLORIDA DOES AS WELL.
