AN OFFICIAL CAUSE OF DEATH HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE CITY OF WACO RAISING AWARENESS TONIGHT ABOUT DUMPING ANIMALS AFTER THEIR SURVIELLANCE CAMERA CAUGHT A MAN DUMPING A BOX OF KITTENS IN FRONT OF THE ANIMAL SHELTER THURSDAY. THAT MAN HAS SINCE BEEN FINED. FOX 44’S MICHELLE TROTTER IS LIVE IN THE CONTROL ROOM AFTER SPEAKING WITH OFFICIALS AT THE SHELTER. THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO RE-HOME ANIMALS INCLUDING SURRENDERING THEM SAFELY OR EVEN WORKING WITH A RESCUE TO FIND A HOME. IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT FEES, THE CITY SAYS THEY WILL WORK WITH YOU TO FIGURE SOMETHING OUT. THIS IS VIDEO FROM THE SECURITY CAMERAS AT THE ANIMAL SHELTER SHOWING A PERSON ABANDOING A BOX OF KITTENS BEFORE THE SHELTER OPENED THURSDAY. “They were in a tub that was closed with no air holes so once we got them out, they were just very scared.” THE SHELTER MANAGER LUIS LEYVA SAYS THERE WERE 2 ADULT CATS AND 7 KITTENS INSIDE THE BOX. “the issue was we don’t know where these cats came from, we don’t know if they actually belong to this person or they belong to a neighbor or what happened with these kittens, so we don’t know any information on them.” LEYVA SAYS THEY HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE DROP OFF ANIMALS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT OR BEFORE THE SHELTER OPENS AND LEAVE. DOING THAT IS CONSIDERED A CLASS C DISMEANOR WHICH WILL COSTS ANYWHERE FROM ONE DOLLAR TO FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. “I mean sometimes the best deal is to bring them here, but we do ask them to let us know when they are coming and that way we can prepare, we can find space for them, we can make sure that we can get them taken care off right then and there.” THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE HUMANE SOCIETY DON BLAND SAYS THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING AN UPTICK IN CATS LATELY. “Kitten season is a tough time and we are in the midst of it right now.” THE SHELTER HAS MANY RESOURCES TO HELP WITH CATS. “if they were outside cats, community cats, feral cats then bring them to animal birth control clinc or your vet, get them sprayed, neutered, and ear tipped, vaccinned and put back out.” THE HUMANE SOCIETY IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR DONATIONS AND PEOPLE TO FOSTER ANIMALS.
