WHAT BRINGS YOU HAPPINESS? THINK ABOUT THE LITTLE THINGS MOST OF US TAKE
FOR GRANTED: A WARM AND SAFE PLACE TO LIVE; THE ABILITY TO READ AND WRITE; GOOD HEALTH;
AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO EAT AND KEEP US FULL. BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORS WHO ARE LIVING
WITHOUT THE BASIC NECESSITIES, OR ARE BARELY GETTING BY? EACH YEAR I URGE YOU TO TAKE PART IN THE MADISON COLLEGE COMBINED CHARITABLE CAMPAIGN. EACH YEAR WE RAISE THOUSANDS TO HELP OUR COMMUNITIES. THIS YEAR I WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT MANY OF
THE RECIPIENTS OF YOUR GOODWILL ARE IN FACT OUR OWN STUDENTS … AND COLLEAGUES. THIS YEAR’S COMBINED CHARITABLE CAMPAIGN
KICKS OFF IN OCTOBER, WITH YOUR DONATIONS GOING TO OUR STUDENTS VIA THE MADISON COLLEGE FOUNDATION OR YOUR CHOICE OF UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS. COMMUNITY HEALTH CHARITIES.AND YOUR LOCAL UNITEDWAY. THESE UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS COVER A WIDE
RANGE OF CHARITIES THAT HELP THOUSANDS OF OUR NEIGHBORS IN THEIR PURSUIT OF A BETTER
LIFE. EVEN ONE-DOLLAR PER PAYROLL HELPS. AS THE CAMPAIGN SLOGAN STATES, GIVE A LITTLE,
HELP A LOT. IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE MADISON, YOU CAN CHOOSE
TO HAVE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS GO TOWARD A UNITEDWAY IN YOUR OWN COUNTY OR REGION. I UNDERSTAND THE OPTIONS OF HOW MUCH TO GIVE
AND WHO TO GIVE IT TO CAN BE OVERWHELMING. I ASK YOU TO FIND AT LEAST ONE CAUSE THAT
SPEAKS TO YOUR HEART AND GIVE WHAT YOU CAN, EITHER IN A ONE-TIME GIFT OR THROUGH PAYROLL
DEDUCTION. NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL. AND WATCH FOR OUR CUTEST PET CONTEST, GIVE
THANKS EVENT AND ONLINE AUCTION. I’M HAPPY BECAUSE I WORK WITH SO MANY INDIVIDUALS WHO CARE ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORS, WHO TAKE THE TIME TO ASK, HOW CAN I HELP MAKE MY COMMUNITY AND OUR COLLEGE HAPPY PLACES FOR ALL? MARISSA DEGROOT – DANE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY:
I’m happy because I help find homes for furry family members. SHANNON BARRY – DOMESTIC ABUSE INTERVENTION
SERVICES (DAIS): I’m happy because we’re able to provide
shelter and safety to families in crisis. SAGE SIMPSON – OPERATION FRESH START STUDENT:
