Human Rights Day 10 December 2018

All over the world Soroptimists join
hands to recognize Human Rights Day Observed every year on the 10th of
December the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted in 1948 the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights 2018 is the 70th anniversary of the
Declaration the most translated document in the world Free and equal, the right to

national and international level reaffirm the principles of the
Declaration and underscore the value and importance of dignity and equality for
all. We are of course not there yet. Today figures suggest that 1
in 10 children worldwide are still engaged in child labour. One in three
women still suffer violence in their lifetime. Women face inequality in pay,
and 700 million women today were married before the age of 18. The 2030 agenda for sustainable development takes on ongoing and new global challenges such as Water
for all (SDG6), Zero Hunger (SDG2), Quality Education (SDG4), Gender Equality (SDG5), and Empowerment of
course of women and girls. Traditionally 10th of December is the
day that Soroptimists come together to support our SI international President’s
Appeal and implement these SDGs. We must also take the time to pause and
reflect, act and engage and advocate for human rights for all, standing up for our
own rights and empowering those who need our support. Get inspired by the SI
