How Animal Humane Society Saved ‘Miracle Cat’

WEREN’T SURE THAT CHAI WOULD MAKE IT. AS MOLLY ROSENBLATT CHOSES, SHE EARNED HER MIRACLE CAT NICKNAME. Reporter: THIS TWO-YEAR-OLD WAS EXPOSED TO SUBZERO TEMPERATURES AND SHE WAS DELIVERED TO THE ANIMAL HUMANE SOCIETY. THE DOCTOR SAID IT IS A MIRACLE SHE SURVIVED. WE SEE FROSTBITE QUITE A BIT, BUT SHE HAD AN EXTREME CASE. Reporter: IT LED TO THE LOSS OF HER EARS, ALL OF HER TAIL, AND HALF OF HER HIND LEGS. WITH CHAI, IT WAS SO BAD THAT THE TIPS OF BOTH OF HER BACK FEET WERE DEAD AND THERE WAS DAMAGE MOST OF THE WAY UP HER BACK LEGS. Reporter: SHE SURVIVED THE SURGERY BUT THAT WAS ONLY HALF THE BATTLE. AFTER THE HEALING SHE HAD TO LEARN TO WALK AGAIN. OVER A PERIOD OF WEEKS TO MONTHS SHE GOT BACK TO IT. SHE WAS HAPPY AND PLAYFUL AND RUNNING AROUND BY THE END AND HAS BEEN LIVING SUCCESSFULLY IN A NEW HOME. Reporter: AN EMPLOYEE AT THE AMERICAN HUMANE SOCIETY TOOK HER AS A FOSTER PET AND DECIDED TO KEEP HER. IT WAS FAR FROM EASY. IT IS A LOT TO TAKE ON AND IT TOOK HER A LONG TIME TO RECOVER, MAYBE A MONTH OR SO ABOUT LEARNING HOW TO REUSE HER LEGS. BUT IN THE END, SHE DID VERY WELL. IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE. WE ARE HOSTING A PHONE BANK TO HELP SAVE ANIMALS LIKE CHAI. ANY AMOUNT YOU CAN GIVE WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE. VOLUNTEERS ARE READY TO TAKE HER DONATIONS. AND THE NUMBER TO CALL IS 800- 542-9226 . THE WOK FOR ANIMALS IS THIS SATURDAY MORNING AT 10 AM IN GOLDEN VALLEY.
