Gender research in PIM: rural transformation, productivity, and women’s empowerment (Cheryl Doss)

so flagship sexists working on really on three big issues to think about how gender fits into PIMs work more generally so one of them is to think about where gender fits into the broader aspects of rural transformation one is to think about where gender fits into agricultural productivity and then the third one is work that's looking at women's empowerment and also work around measurement trying to find better ways that we can understand how to measure what women own the resources they have access to their roles in decision-making and their levels of empowerment so we've been doing quite a bit of work around methods of collecting better sexist aggregated data which will allow us to do better gender analysis so if there's a number of questions one is can we actually go within the household and find out for example who owns what who makes what kinds of decisions what resources the individuals have access to because it's not only at the household level that resources are owned and accessed but also it matters for a lot of the kinds of decisions and outcomes who within the household has control over it so we've been doing quite a bit of research trying to find better methods and then also to try to understand what joint means within the household so that when joint when when you say that your land is owned jointly does that what does that mean does it mean that it's owned that both people have equal control over it or is it joint but not equal and what this joint decision-making mean does it mean in some context we've learned that joint means that the woman is told what the decision is before the before the action is actually taken but not that she's actually had a been an equal partner in making those decisions you
