For Honor Shugoki Cultural Secrets! – Game Exchange

hey everyone gaijin Goomba here well you guys been asking me for a four hour video for a few weeks now and after having some quality time with the game holy balls is there so much I want to talk about but allow me to indulge my weave like tenancies and go off a little bit on the samurai faction I just freaking love them love the design the playstyle and all the background lore that make them up the kids a samurai or chin the Nobu she's referencing of the amazing own abou geisha the orochi's ninja like tendencies and the shoe cookies wait what is the shoe goki based on I mean I get it Ubisoft keeps talking about how the shoe goki is based off of traditional Oni but every other hero on the roster is based off of some true-to-life warrior where the shoe cokie easily my favorite class in the game that is until the shinobi come out in DLC is less without a lot of back history I mean what do we know from the game trailers shadow key literally meaning defense and great demon have the strength and will of a stereotypical Oni their massive size and demon mats definitely give them that appearance but jucoky also wield the carnival an iron club that is very closely associated with Japanese Oni ochres in fact Oni and their kata bow are so intimately connected that merely putting the two together in Japanese has become its own saying only Neko noble or becoming as strong as one can be or unnecessarily strong a description that fits the shoe goatee very very well but that can't be it I know that can't be it and interestingly enough a large part of the internet agrees while doing research on the shoe goofy I found a bunch of fan series on reddit YouTube and a few wiki's that have their own theories behind the shoe go key there's a lot of talk of not only rigorous physical training but also specialized diets graduation ages and the importance of their masks well I spent a better part of a day tracking down what I could find that could confirm or deny these theories and in my findings I discovered there is one group of warriors that shego key shares nearly every aspect with sumo now I know you might be thinking well no duh of course they're based off of sumo they're both Japanese and they're fat guys well tell me something what straightforward evidence were we different from the game trailers or the story of the game that you goki were based on sumo because from what I could research there's none all we got with all this Oni talk however it's the subtleties that connect the two together and it's those same subtleties that actually hint that all these fancy Ruiz may be more than just simple theories so let's break down what we can equate and what we can speculate when it comes to the relationship between the shougo key and the sumo first of all we got to talk about the origins of sumo and how it correlates to the origin of the shougo key according to the nihon shoki in 719 during the Nara period sumo became an established court event every province was requested to send a sumo wrestler to represent them in a large-scale event and banquet called su- HEA while at the same time sumo was a very competitive court event matches during new year's would also act as divination rights called Toshio de to predict the oncoming agricultural season by 1193 the practice of su- ecchi a came to a close but the spirit of sumo lived on as a form of training for husky samurai however as the 1700s rolled around in Japan finally ended its warring States era sumo began to gain a lot of traction in popularity with the common folk and thus turned into japan's biggest native sports now in-game the Shikoku were spoken as Guardians first and becoming family second the shoe goki once our Guardians they have the common last family this definitely parallels the historical journey that sumo wrestlers had gone on from acting as representatives of their province to becoming the ultimate guardians samurai to finally becoming like family to the common folk in the practice of sumo as a more traditional sport I know a lot of that sounds like some highly interpretive stuff but there's a lot more between the shoe goki and the sumo that is far more cut-and-dry for example one aspect that sumo and Shikoku share is their gender segregation granted international sumo organizations have no segregation on race or gender but when it comes to traditional sumo in Japan women were not allowed to participate likewise and for honor should go key are male and male alone but don't worry ladies when I roll out my video on Nobu she in their connection to all Naboo geisha you'll get your revenge another thing that she Gopi and sumo have in common is the practice of pushing around your opponent I think it's pretty common knowledge that the objective of a sumo matches to either throw your phone into the floor or push them out of the ring they should go key on the other hand has not one not two but three different ways of pushing his opponent around the standard guard block throw the demon ball and the charge of the Oni heck one of the first beats you unlock as the shougo key is the ability to throw opponents further make no mistake out of all of the heroes the shougo key are masters of manipulating enemy position by launching them further than any other class can likewise the whole objective of sumo is to push and manipulate your opponent's positioning and finally something as small as a shoe go key ton can be tied back to sumo in one of the earlier alpha builds shoe go key had the battle ton of them stamping with one foot than another on the field now a lot of folks in the West have by and large trivialize this as something of a stereotype but its symbolism goes far beyond simplicity the movement and action of the stop like many things in sumo heralds back to shinto the throwing of salt on top of the specific stopping on the ground was said to purify the area and raid evil from the ring but the action goes even further than that every New Year in Japan high ranking sumo including the highest of rank yoga come to Meiji Shrine in Tokyo to perform a dance like ritual stomp to bring good fortune to the new year but these are some of the more obvious things that can connect the sumo to shag okey what about those internet theories that I mentioned in the beginning in this video well there were three specific posts I wanted to address and see just how close to true these theories might be when it comes to shoe goki in a reddit post by shogun trooper they theorized that the Shikoku started off as a local champion of sorts a protector and celebrity of the people until the destruction of the samurai homeland now the Chicot key has become integrated into the ranks of the samurai to officially fight for their new home as far as headcanons go i really like this one and it could just as easily parallel to the story of how the sumo came to be just backwards with the exception of a dozen or so sumo that participated in the su mine no such a the majority of sumo were samurai turned ronin mercenaries and bodyguards for hire who eventually became like family to the everyday people and the popularization of sumo as a sport like I said very similar origins between shoe goki and sumo just backwards time lines moving on to a theory that I found on the foreigner wiki under the lower section it stated shidou ki are rare simply because few people even meet the requirements to join and fewer have the will like a sumo wrestler their body is molded with exercise and food to build both strength and mass they wield a weapon with the goal of an unstoppable momentum and skin too thick for sort of cut through if the shoe go gay truly takes their combat after sumo tactics which we see in there three different throwing techniques this wiki theory would make all the sense in the world a lot of people like to dismiss sumo training is something simple that only requires you to be fat and nothing else not true at all the daily life of a sumo wrestler starts at 5 a.m. at the hey ah sumo schools in which they live in training continues throughout the morning into the afternoon with drills like Shikoh which are stomping exercises to build lower body strength Mozza wadi where the sumo sits with legs splayed and must lean forward until his chest touches the ground while holding that pose tempo training a kind of pushing exercise where you constantly strike at a wooden pole with an open palm then alternating to another I guess this is where Yonder during that whole Han to finally boot Zuccotti gecko a drill in which one sumo pushes another across a ring of sand and dirt until they reach the end then they change positions and do it all over again it certainly would take a strong will to train daily this way it would make sense for the shoe goki to drill in a similar way when dealing with leverage positioning and striking after all sumo not only trained in pushing their opponents but also how to hold their ground when being pushed themselves which the should go keys passive uninterruptible stance mirrors however this wiki lower states that you go key are not built on training alone and neither are sumo we talked about the exercise aspect of the shoe go key theory but not the diet in parallel soon we'll have a very specific diet and resting period in order to convert high calorie intake into body mass sumos eat two very large meals a day with lunch being a high calorie meal of chanko nabe a su of beef fish and vegetables as well as several side bowls of rice afterwards the sumo wouldn't have to let the food settle and distribute properly in the body while late afternoons and evenings would consist of chores upkeep and likely eating out at either kaiser other restaurants so that basically covers how the diet of the sumo could relate back to the shoe goki but there was one theory I found that really and I mean really could connect the sumo to the shoe go key on a very technical level in my research I came across a live wire video that featured a comment from one the Reaper who stated some very specific aspects about the shoe goki's training in life in order to even train as a shoe goki you first had to be six foot six inches or about two meters tall and you had to weigh over 100 kilograms or over 220 pounds you also had to bear hand lift a 70 kilogram or 154 pound Boulder straight up into the air training was typically complete at the age of 19 wherein the shoe gooky would receive their mats which they would wear for the rest of their lives and rarely take it on this is where things get interesting the average sumo wrestler is 6 foot tall and about 326 pounds which is very similar to the show go key theory but it has four requirements though while throughout the Golden Age of sumo there was no such thing in 1994 it was decreed that sumo rest must be five foot nine in order to be accepted into any training again very close to the shoe go P theory as far as weight training go it's from what I researched little is to be found in traditional sumo training however it was known that Yokozuna also showed you a key note he could bench 200 kilograms or about 441 pounds without problems I would be pretty surprised of a 70 kilogram Boulder was much of a problem for the avid sumo wrestler to lift up in terms of age according to this theory Xu goki graduates the age of 19 and in parallel sumo typically begin training at 15 as agile no cootchie and rise throughout the ranks over time granted there are 10 different ranks in the world of sumo so I would imagine it would take quite some time in order to reach the top tier of Micucci about 4 years seems like an appropriate amount of time for sumo to rise in the ranks likewise for the graduation age of 19 it would make sense for the Xu go key to start training around the post-pubescent age of 15 but it's this final detail that really got me curious according to this theory should go key received their masks at graduation and rarely take it off sumo does have it equivalents to this that shown ma gay or Edo style top knot due to their close association with Shinto all sumo wrestlers must wear their hair in it's shown ma gay not at all time with exceptions of maintenance and care to lose once Joan ma gay means one leave the world of sumo forever likewise with all this evidence piling up showing the Chicot fees paralleling the sumo it would seem that the loss of the Shikoku Solman mask might very well spell the end of the Shikoku life what what do you guys think are these fan theories feasible or is there something that we're missing let me know in the comments below and why you're typing I want to show off the winners of the winter fan art competition that was held by the gaijin kuma fan club over on TV NORTHCOM this year's entries were so spectacular I honestly couldn't choose just one so thank you all who participated these were such 1. at 5:45 the guy in the middle with the front skirt and braid-like things are present as a shugoki armor part

  2. God I hate fighting the Shugoki because of their stupid super armor with heavy attacks and that GOD DAMN HEALTH STEALING.

Still, the lore is super interesting

  3. Gaijin goomba. I'm kind of disapointwd that you have neglected to do research on the knight faction or Norse factions. Not cool man.

  4. My exact first thought when I saw Shugoki in beta ‘Oh, that’s a Sumo wrestler with a club’

  5. I am two years late, but shugoki is the THICCEST hero. P.S Guan dao is my favorite weapon goomba. (Not that im expecting a response two years later.)

  6. Didn’t know the depths of sumo, pretty awesome, and yeah shugoki is absolutely a mirror to sumo, from outfits to play style to emotes bully sumo all the way. Nice video
