Everlast – What It’s Like

[acoustic guitar strumming] We’ve all seen the man at the liquor store beggin’ for your change. The hair on his face is dirty, dreadlocked and full of mange He asked a man for what he could spare with shame in his eyes “Get a job, you fuckin’ slob”‘s all he replied God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
‘Cause then you really might know what it’s like to sing the blues. Then you really might know what it’s like [4x] [acoustic guitar strumming] Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love He said, “Don’t worry about a thing, baby doll, I’m the man you’ve been dreamin’ of.” But three months later he said he won’t date her or return her call And she sweared, “God damn if I find that man I’m cuttin’ off his balls.” And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin’ through the door. They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a whore God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
‘Cause then you really might know what it’s like to have to choose Then you really might know what it’s like [4x] I’ve seen a rich man beg
I’ve seen a good man sin
I’ve seen a tough man cry I’ve seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie I’ve seen the good side of bad
And the down side of up
And everything between I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
Smoked the finest green I stroked the baddest dimes
At least a couple of times
Before I broke their heart You know where it ends
Yo, it usually depends
On where you start [acoustic guitar strumming] I knew this kid named Max
He used to get fat stacks
Out on the corner with drugs He liked to hang out late
He liked to get shit faced
And keep pace with thugs Until late one night
There was a big gun fight
Max lost his head He pulled out his Chrome .45
Talked some shit
And wound up dead And now his wife and his kids
Are caught in the midst
Of all of his pain You know it comes that way
At least that’s what they say
When you play the game God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news. ‘Cause then you really might know what it’s like to have to lose Then you really might know what it’s like [3x] To have to lose… [acoustic guitar strumming]

  1. Was on the streets me my 🎸 guitar and Toledo Ohio…… And the blues coming through my hands as a homeless man I come up got of the streets..

  2. I actually had a cop drive me to MCDC in Monroe county
This was on the radio and he turned it up for me.
Nothing like a trip to the jail with this, I think that was 99 or bit later.
    Busted wasted again.
Down old Flagler Ave . Coming out the mangroves at the beach

  3. Never really knew my dad because hes been in prison since I was so young, I discovered this son a few days ago and my uncle told me it was his favorite song. Made me happy, its hard to forgive family members but everyone makes mistakes I guess..

  4. The message this song is tell you is that if you havent lived it..dont judge someone who has…I've heard so many people talk about what they would do if they were in that situation and it comes and they dont stay true to it..no one is perfect..we all got problems..instead of making someones difficult time harder how about offer help and support. Or just stay out of other people buisness.. negativity and putting people down is in the past.. let's help each other when we can and do our best to make this world a better place.. if anyone needs some help feel free to message me on here..I offer you the answers to the problems and I'll open your mind to see the truth that life is.. no I'm not crazy..maybe a little bit this world needs a lot of love and healing and I got a lot to give… we're not here forever so stop making it so hard and nasty.. it's a beautiful place this world and this gift of life.. stop being so mean. Call me what you want..but if you listen you will see.

  5. probably the most beatiful song written by Everlast. Sure, one of my favourites.

  6. I needed this tonite! Surprised I can't remember this song but I'm glad I found it. Thank you @TommyBoy 🕺🏾🙏🏾☝🏾

  7. I think the point of this song is that ita easy to judge and criticize someone until youve actually been through what they're going through… Put yourself in tbeir shoes. What would you do? ❤💜

  8. About the second verse, I think we need to show mercy to a woman who had an abortion just like Jesus did to the woman caught in adultery, but we also must warn her to stop doing it. Abortion is not right. It is murder. Even a baby already has his/her own rights

  9. Man. I'm trying to be a better person. I won't ever truly know anyone else's full experience of life so I'm trying my best to recognize. Saw a homeless guy a few weeks ago. Gave him some whiskey, water, cigs, sandwich from mc d, and a bit of $. I may not know what it's like but if I was in his situation, I would feel that was god sent. I've battled addiction and I've seen how some things can affect people and how some people are too far gone. But I know it's still a struggle for them everyday. Everyone has a struggle, and based on you upbringing the severity of something so minute to you can be catastrophic to someone else. Try your best to put yourself in their shoes.

  10. if we all could use this to help us all judge less we would be a better world.. We do not need to know why . We are better off if we can include and care for everyone regardless of our/their path/choices ..

  11. Well I've lived this life since 1995 and it doesn't get any better just names and faces come and go so fast. It seems like you're just a dead weight
