Dr. Wolynn Explains Why HPV Vaccine Is Recommended For Preteens

(upbeat, gentle music) – Yes, our practice starts by recommending the HPV
vaccine as early as age 9, and certainly, we use the
routine vaccine platform of 11 or 12, but our goal
is to be done vaccinating for the HPV series by age 12. And, we have patients that
come in later than that, and we recognize that
that is a late period after age 12 in our practice, but we get everybody at
every possible opportunity. When they don’t want the vaccine, we explain to them how
common this virus is, and that the chance that
their child will get it is close to 90%. And while close to 90% of those kids will clear spontaneously,
we can’t predict who. So, we explain to them that prevention is about getting the vaccine, so they don’t have to worry
about the nine HPV types, knowing that they have the
best protection possible. (upbeat, gentle computer music)
