Crane coming in for Carrier Dome renovation project

THOSE DEVELOPMENTS CLOSELY. WELL — THE SYRACUSE SKYLINE MIGHT LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT BY NEXT MONTH. THE BIGGEST PIECE OF THE 118-MILLION DOLLAR CARRIER DOME ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT IS ON ITS WAY FROM GERMANY. A GIANT CRANE. IT’S ONE OF THE LARGEST IN THE UNITED STATES — LIFTING PIECES OF STEEL OVER ONE HUNDRED FEET LONG TO MAKE THE CROWN TRUSS OF THE ROOF. PETE SALA — VP AND CHIEF FACILITIES OFFICER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE CARRIER DOME: TOMORROW MORNING THE BIG TRACKS AND THE CAB WILL COME. THEY WILL COME UP THE ROAD ABOUT FOUR O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING WITH A POLICE ESCORT. THEY’RE OVERSIZED SO IN ORDER TO GET THEM UP HERE, WE’RE BRINGING THEM IN VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING. IT WILL TAKE WEEKS FOR US TO ASSEMBLE THAT CRANE. THERE’S PROBABLY ANOTHER 60 TRACTOR TRAILER LOADS OF CRANE PARTS YET TO SHOW UP IN SYRACUSE. IT’S ABOUT 85-87 LOADS ALL ENTAIL WITH THE ENTIRE CRANE THAT’S COMING. IT’S AN 11 HUNDRED TON CRANE. VERY, VERY LARGE…VERY, VERY LARGE CRANE.” CHRISTIE: SALA SAYS THE DOME’S TRUSSES SHOULD BE COMPLETE IN JANUARY, WITH FANS GETTING THEIR FIRST LOOK AT WHAT THE ROOF MIGHT LOOK LIKE SOMETIME NEXT SUMMER.
