Attitudes in Wisconsin appear to be shifting on medical marijuana

A NEW BILL CALLS FOR A STATEWIDE REFERENDUM AND AS 12 NEWS’ NICK BOHR REPORTS, ATTITUDES ARE SHIFTING. NICK: SEVERAL DEMOCRATIC STATE REPS ARE AGAIN TRYING TO LEGALIZE MEDICAL MARIJUANA. >>WE KNOW ABSOLUTELY HOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE CHRONIC DISEASE. NICK: THEY SAY MORE AND MORE WISCONSINITES, LIKE MUSKEGO’S JEFF CASPER, BELIEVE MEDIC MARIJUANA USE SHOULD BE OK EVEN IF THEY DON’T SUPPORT FULL LEGALIZATION.>>FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES, YOU KNOW, HELP GOING THROUGH THEIR CANCER OR WHATEVER MEDICAL ISSUES THEY GOT GOING ON, I THINK IT’S FINE. NICK: A MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL POLL LAST JUNE FOUND EVIDENCE OF THOSE SHIFTING ATTITUDES. AND 59% OF REGISTERED VOTERS TOLD THEM THEY SUPPORTED FULL LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA. >>WE ARE BOTH IN FAVOR OF LEGAL MARIJUANA FOR MEDICAL USE, WE REALLY ARE, AND WE ARE SEASONED, AND WE WOULD NOT OBJECT TO USING IT. NICK: MARRIED NEARLY 50 YEARS, VI AND RON REINERT OF MUKWONAGO ARE TYPICAL OF PEOPLE WE SPOKE WITH IN WAUKESHA COUNTY. >>I WOULD NOT GO TO AUTOMATICALLY LEGALIZING MARIJUANA FOR RECREATIONAL USE. MAYBE, MAYBE NOT, BUT THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE DEBATED. BUT MEDICAL MARIJUANA, DEFINITELY. >>ESPECIALLY FOR PAIN MEDICATION, STUFF LIKE THAT, IF THERE WAS PRESCRIPTION MARIJUANA FOR IT, IT WOULD BE WAY MORE BENEFICIAL THAN ANY OPIATES. NICK: IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN WHETHER THOSE OPINIONS WILL BE ENOUGH TO SWAY LAWMAKERS. IN WAUKESHA, NICK BOHR, WISN 12 NEWS. KATHY: SENATE MAJORITY LEADER SCOTT FITZGERALD, A JUNEAU REPUBLICAN, HAS SAID HE’LL NEVER SUPPORT LEGALIZING MEDICAL MARIJUANA.

  1. so Scott Fitzgerald from Juno is saying in other words " I'm not going on camera on this but I don't support it and if the majority of the people want it legal I don't care I'm in charge and I say it stays illegal "
I guess he doesn't care in listening to the people.

  2. Wisconsin should just legalize Marijuana. we all smoke it anyways. what are they waiting for? we were just voted in the top 50 places to live , it's cause most of us are chilled out. if there was more pot out here the Bullshit pills would go away.

  3. I suffer from severe chronic pain due to cervical spine damage following a car accident. I recently moved to Wisconsin & want a legal alternative to my opioid pain killer prescriptions.

  4. Federal government says it has no medical value, yet they have a patent on its medical value. Look it up patent #6630507.
Oh and by the way, you need to get rid of any politician that's against medical cannabis, their just idiots.

  5. It's an abuse of power to lock people up for something that is a choice of someone. It's just something that goes in and out of the lungs.

  6. Sounds like we have to wait for all the old people in Congress that are afraid of change , to leave or die before we can have an open minded debate with opened minded people. These stubborn old people in Congress need to understand that success is driven by change. Get with the program. Research how much funds it would produce. Win/win.
