4/22 Pet of the Week: Ricky

I CAN’T SAY IT, MY TV IS ON AND
MY DOG WILL GET EXCITED. WE’VE GOT RICKY, VERY WELL
BEHAVED. I GET IT, IT IS EARLY. I WOULD BE TAKING A NAP IF I
COULD.>>RICKY IS SIX MONTHS OLD. HE IS NEUTERED, MICROCHIP, AND
VACCINATED. CHRIS: WHAT A GOOD BOY.>>HE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR
ADOPTION. WE OPEN AT 11:00 ON THE
MILWAUKEE CAMPUS. HE WALKED HERE ON HIS OWN, BUT
WITH A LEASH OF COURSE. CHRIS: HE’S VERY MILD TEMPERED. HE WAS SHY AT FIRST, BUT WARMED
UP PRETTY QUICK. HE’S GOT FOUR SOX, AND I LIKE
HIS COAT.>>IT IS HARD TO KNOW HOW BIG HE
WILL BE. HE COULD BE A GOOD-SIZED KID. CHRIS: I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY,
HE IS A MONTH, HAVE TERRIFIC —
A MUTT, HALF TERRIFIC, HALF
AWESOME. IT IS VERY HARD TO KEEP THEIR
ATTENTION SOMETIMES. WHAT CAN YOU DO?>>THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS,
WHEN A DOG JUMPS, SIMPLY TURNING
YOUR BODY AWAY. YOU DON’T WANT TO PUSH HIM OFF. THAT IS GIVING THEM THE
ATTENTION THEY LIKE. YOU LET THEM SLIDE OFF YOUR BODY
, AND AS SOON AS THEY HAVE ALL
FOUR FEET ON THE FLOOR, REWARD
THAT. CROUCH AND PET THEM AND GIVE
THEM A TREAT, AND ENLIST FAMILY
AND FRIENDS TO HELP. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A LOT OF
VISITORS, GETTING PEOPLE TO COME
OVER AND WORK WITH YOU AND GET
ON THE SAME PAGE, AND TEACHING A
DOG TO SIT WHEN THEY SAY HI TO
SOMEONE. IT IS HARD TO JUMP WHEN THEY ARE
SITTING. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT IS SIMPLY
TURNING AWAY WHEN THEY JUMP ON
YOU. OVER TIME, THEY REALLY WANT YOUR
ATTENTION AND THEY LEARN THAT IS
NOT WHAT THEY SHOULD DO TO GET
IT. CHRIS: HE’S KIND OF LOUNGING.>>HE IS A REALLY RELAXED KID. CHRIS: DOES HE HAVE A GOOD
AMOUNT OF ENERGY?>>HE DOES. WE WERE PLAYING OUTSIDE THE
STUDIO. HE WILL PROBABLY LIKE LONG WALKS
WHEN HE’S OLDER. CHRIS: EDEN, I THINK HE’S GOT
YOUR ATTENTION. YOU GUYS HAVE PLENTY OF OTHER
ANIMALS?>>THERE ARE LOTS OF DOGS. YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR WEBSITE. THERE IS ALSO MORE INFORMATION
FOR OUR BEHAVIOR DEPARTMENT, IF
YOU HAVE BEHAVIOR QUESTIONS. CHRIS: YOU CAN GO TO THEIR
MILWAU
